Perrie - "Forget About Us"

Featured Replies

Hmm. DON'T JUMP ME!! I need to sit with this for a few more listens before I fully make up my mind, but on first listen I feel a little underwhelmed :doc:

I'll start with the positives: the chorus is very catchy (but we already knew this), Perrie's vocals really sell the song, it's a very radio friendly song that I think will sound good on full blast. The second half of the song when the drums kick in gives it a much needed punch. Ad libs towards the end of the song also great.

However there's lots of tiny little things that bother me. The song feels completely disjointed to me. The verses don't seem to flow in to the chorus, the pre chorus (?) is extremely clunky, the first 30 seconds sort of builds the song up… then it completely drops out again at about 0:48 for like 5/6 seconds before going back to some sort of build up again before the full punch chorus finally kicks in? The random tempo change at 0:48 just sticks out like a sore thumb considering that it's the *only* time it happens in the song? It literally sounds like she's randomly re-set the song halfway through to the beginning, it completely takes me out of it.

I'm sorry to pick the song apart so much but from a song structure/production point of view this feels a tad messy. I am sure I'll get some mileage out of this but I don't love it just yet…

  • Not bad actually but don't insult her by comparing to Kelly Clarkson (a fake person with bad personality/music and whatever) hope it do well

  • Every. Single. Time. I scroll by this thread my head instantly goes I DON'T WANT YOU EVER TO FORGET ABOUT US   I'm so excited to hear this in full!

  • It sounds dated af…

I will give this a chance to grow on me because I adore Perrie, I love her voice and I want her to succeed. I think teasing the best part of the song on Tik Tok for so long has maybe influenced my expectations of what the final product would sound like… I'll come back to this after a few more listens and let you know if I switch or not ddd

Adult Contemporary Pop Radio smash locked and loaded. I kind of stan this perfectly boring song @Walk_Away21 it's giving early 2000s American Idol Winner debut single

the last picture should have been the cover for the single.

re: the song, well... it's radio friendly for sure and that's all i'm gonna say about it.

@The Slayer the second half of the song sounds massive when the drums kick in, it's just how disjointed it feels to me going from that slow build up for 30 seconds to that random drop that throws me off. I honestly think if they'd cut that part of the song it would have felt so much smoother

This is so bland. :skull:

Not surprised since Ed Sheeran was involved.

Honestly I love it and how it builds, makes it different to what I'd out there! Hopefully it'll grow on you!

The second half really does go off!

Yeah, like I said I don't hate it. It's catchy and it's a great radio song, I think I just need to get used to the way it's structured. I do sincerely hope it's a hit for her, so I will be supporting regardless

Its very, very repetitive :rip:They had one melody idea and just ran with it. Perrie sounds amazing tho

My thoughts exactly, the song is good at first listening and I'm sure it'll grow on me if I really want it to but I'm not, like, blown away or anything.

Yeah, "good not great" is my feelings at the moment. A perfectly serviceable radio single but you can't help but feel like she's capable of better. Let's see what else she delivers with the album, but I'm sure I'll get a few listens out of this over the summer before I get bored of it ddd

The verses are a little clunky, like she's trying to fit in more words than the beat can handle.  It's cute, but tbh if the blonde blue eyed member is the only one who smashes... hmm.

Don't forget that Perrie is also easily the most talented vocalist in the group. It was always obvious since literally day 1 that she was the soloist if you had to pick one, followed by Jade. It's not fair to dismiss her talent/star power just because shes the blonde one

On first listen, felt this could've hit a little harder but now I've had a few plays and I can't get enough. As most people have said, it's giving Kelly Clarkson and I do enjoy the 2010s feel of it all.

This may be my fav LM solo song. It's reminds me of the early 2010 in the best way were it's nostalgic but not too dated

The chorus is so catchy and this feels like a radio hit, it starts slow but I'm definitely enjoying it! Fav LM debut so far, her voice is just out of this world

Yes, this feels very dated. I'm sure it'll be a hit in England though

:heart2:

I'm underwhelmed by this completely. The verses are forgettable and don't flow to me but Perrie sounds great.

It's baffling that these girls have spent like 10/11 years in a band and when they go solo, they're not experimenting or bringing something new. They're releasing songs that could've been part of LM discography.

Like Forget About Us gives me Think About Us vibes.
