Dua Lipa - "Houdini"

A DTN/Houdini mashup Grammy performance would be great

the new extended pre-chorus of houdini kind of could serve as a transition from DTN to Houdini if you think about it (melodically).

it sounds ridiculous but i can kinda see hear it in my head, the "daaaance, dance the night away... i'll still keep the party running not one hair out of place" transitioning into "weave the ceilin' from tomorrow, free the people from daylight" – DTN clap clap /up :clap3:

:ahh:

This being your example for the US' bad taste

  • one of the weakest lead singles in recent pop music. everything but the chorus ("do you think bout it night & day?") is very weak and uninspired. melodically it sounds like everything she's done b

  • I like that the most notable things about Dua is that she’s a gorgeous pop star who makes great music. And then when you peel back the layers a bit, all you really see is how intelligent, worldly and

No and I can't guarantee TS gonna be next single. We need to wait.

Does TS have rich lyrics that are family-friendly or is it another song about one night stand? :clack:

When radio plays 3 boring, slow Lewis Capaldi-esque ballads in a row and then blasts Houdini and everybody finally wakes up :WAP:

Just one month away until this starts picking up (especially on New Year's Eve like Levitating) and we will get the ball rolling with the GP :jonnycat:

The extended version sounds more like a demo, but it's not bad.

it's just that the OG version is so good and immaculate that a new verse and more instrumental is a little unnecessary :giraffe:

I’ve been more doubting if there was a last minute lead single switch rather than the existence of the song itself

Well... option 2 :eli:

when she debuts “Uncut” and it’s about Aron Piper :jonny2:

So she's coming to flop :weeps: her Bon Appetit is coming

my one concern about DL3 is that I REALLY want more personalized lyricism from her. Houdini is very formulaic lyrically speaking but I get it since its the lead single and is making a statement and creating a vibe. But with the other singles and album tracks I really want more interesting and meaty lyrics. Doesnt have to be a wordy song per say...just give us something more than sexual analogies, partying lyrics or vague feminist statements (if she does tap into those themes tho...make it more interesting!). I want to really hear the lyrics and be like OH this is DUA. Doesnt have to be an emotional track or a ballad for it to have more unique to Dua type of lyrics. Her debut surprisingly had more of those moments than FN tbh. Lets hope theres that on DL3

I think it's coming on that date in february when Houdini physicals are gonna ship in the US - 23rd or something?

This means they will go all out promo wise after Xmas.

February 23rd is a good date. I wonder if she will do a full fledged tour next year already

:duca: so soon. How much in advance should the second single be before the album

My thought is that they will release a second WW single early January, and then a third WW single/2nd US single for the album release.

If Houdini is flopping at New Years, then they can just promote the 2nd WW single in the US as well.

She won't do that. She's talked about not liking really diaristic songs and her songs have always been more ambiguous, I don't think she'll ever go for that type of ''situational, time and place'' songwriting that Taylor has for example

I personally like Dua’s aloof and private approach to music. I love Taylor’s music but have always found it hard to latch onto the more personal and specific songs just because I struggle to relate to a multi-millionaire famous white woman as a plebe.

Similarly, I love Rih since she mostly sings about more impersonal things and creates bops, but when she does get more personal (Rated R, Mother Mary, etc) it makes those songs even more special rather than just another story in a sea of them. So that being said, I love Dua’s approach but I do hope we get at least one or two more personal songs in the future!

We’re either getting a SHELVED and REWORKED album or the era is about to truly start.

Either way :jonny2:

The album is about being single, so... I doubt it

Yeah, it's definitely the original cut. The extended version really cements that they used the Let It Happen structure. And like Let It Happen, the shorter version hits way harder, especially when the guitar kicks in.
