Even though it’s a Sunday update, it’s fairly clear this song is just not clicking. If it were only so low in the US I’d say they could keep pushing and eventually it’ll catch on, but it doesn’t seem to be gaining much traction even in her strongest markets. I just think it’s a little too different for the GP to really latch onto. 

 

Like I’ve said before, the things that are smashing right now are songs that sound like older songs (Greedy, Lovin On Me) or songs with incredibly easy to digest hooks (Paint the Town Red). Perhaps Training Season will do better if it is the 2nd single, but I’m just really happy that Houdini is a great song above all. I’ll take a flop song that bops hard over a cheap hit. 

 

If it doesn’t rebound in January quickly, I hope they use their promo plans for the 2nd single

Cold Heart started rising on 3rd Sunday in comparisson with previous 2 Sunday updates. Houdini is her We're Good, she needs lyrics that every family can sing along with, like Levitating, BMH, DTN, DSN. I speak this because whenever my brother and his wife come over with their kids, they approved those songs I mentioned. No wonder why safe music get so many views on YouTube, people want soccer mom'd music videos that their kids can watch. Why do y'all think how Roar and Blank Space got so many views? Ksksksksjsk

that longevity comment from her feels more like damage control than anything else 

 

just make this a buzz single and pick a better song next time

IMO, the main problem with its chart performance so far is that it happened too soon. Too soon considering how the Future Nostalgia era was extremely stable and long, and also she basically had a worldwide hit just a couple of months ago. I'm quite confident that, had Dance the Night not happened, this could have been a bigger hit since its beginning. The general public doesn't care less if that song was for the Barbie soundtrack and that this one is the actual lead single of a new album: they're just the newest Dua Lipa singles, and this one felt probably too rushed after Dance the Night.

This song is as excellent as the first day, not to mention the extended is everything I needed and more. Truly her TMB, sophisticated masterpieces are not for everyone

We do not want soccer mom music. 

It's a good song, but y'all over rate it, and it's definitely not obscure or very different from her Future Nostalgia sound. I'm sure she will have a hit with her album tho.

Wow I truly love this song so much. It's interesting to see how everyone now that wanted her to shift her sound is a chart professional. 

 

Haters even saying it sounds like future nostalgia which it absolutely doesn't. 

 

This will be fine honestly. 

 

This slays on radio but the extended remix sounds unpolished wtf? The extended remixes of Madonna's Hung Up should have been studied.

She did drop Physical in january 2020, right? It wasn't an USA single but it was a single almost everywhere even tho DSN was still doing its thing. It wouldn't be surprising if she drops a new single in january no matter how Houdini is doing. 

 

IMO I love the song, I like that she is trying something different. I know people say this sounds like a FN track or that is disco but it is melodically and harmonically different, that's what's not sticking with people so I get why is not a massive hit and probably won't be, but she has more singles to go and I'm sure there will be something catchier  for the pop lovers.

Houdini is at #52 at this week’s Hot 100!

The drop is 2 spots less than last week! Extremely stable which is very good sign. Ready for the bounce back after Christmas

People keep trying to say it sounds safe and sounds like a FN throwaway but then they can never explain which FN song it sounds like...

 

Obviously Houdini is too ambitious for a lot of "pop" stans online. If it's not Max Martin or Dr. Luke then it's too weird for some.

come on guys it’s not like Houdini is an experimental avant-garde pop song….

 

i mean it follows quite a simple structure….. even some Girls Aloud are more sophisticated than that 

 

I still like the song though! Hope it’s gonna end up being a medium sized hit and that the next single will be even more exciting
