Exactly that. Not even Blank Space and exile come close to these two masterpieces

the best in term of her picking the song as second single (fit with the album, giving another side of the album)

 

1. Blank Space (just a flawless chocie, giving singer-songwriter in the rightest pop-perfection production ever, after easy-pop lead single)

2. Lavender Haze (sets the Midnight tone right, after brighter lead. The reverb production, it being the first track off the album)

3. Exile (opening gate to folklore, to Alternative/Indie fans. This song is the only song got featured on folk/indie playlists despite the album has many more folk-ish songs)

4. Begin Again (a warm country single about opening to new relationship after bubblegum Pop lead about breaking up sounds perfect)

 

5. Back To December

6. White Horse

7. No Body, No Crime

 

8. Ready For It? (I believe the second single was supposed to be End Game. This song was rushed being released to Pop radio after LWYMMD dropped hard after 2 months. This song is as noisy as LWYMMD)

9. Teardrops on My Guitar (a ballad second single after a ballad lead single???)

10. You Need To Calm Down (a Joel Little-failure following a Joel Little-failure. Making Lover to have the bad single choice back-to-back, and they're first and second, and pre-album singles. Really turning people off)

Don’t know the No Body No Crime too well

...Ready For It? 

Begin Again is the best song out of this group, but as a single, Blank Space clears them all. It was the perfect follow up to the (fun) stupidity of SIO, with a perfect music video and just enough winking self-awareness and satire mixed with quotable lyrics for tumblr and Instagram. It really cemented Her status as a full-blown pop star. 

I just realised Evermore never got a proper second single, neither did Folklore but that felt like more of an era. The music is good enough to speak for itself, much like Renaissance, but alas...

 

1. Blank Space (perfect melting pot of her excellent lyricism and talent for pop melodies. excellent arrangement too etc.)

2. Begin Again (brilliant song but doesn't scream single in the same way as Blank Space)
