After amazing debut album "Unwritten", Natasha Bedingfield has decided to come back with this pop/R&B trash. It was one of the biggest flops of 2007. 

 

 

Listen, Don’t Tell Me is tied as my favorite Avril lead single but in terms of commercial appeal it was the wrong choice. 
 

But if we’re talking about sophomore leads that were truly bad it’s hard, most of my favs really showed out with their second lead singles (Breakaway, Die Young, Potential Breakup Song, California Gurls, Problem, Love Story, Here We Go Again etc)

 

Maybe Baby, I’m Jealous? It was cute but a misstep.

My Future was a misstep even if it was an alright song

"Sweet Baby" from Macy Gray's The Id was an odd choice over Relating to a Psychopath or Boo.

I really loved Hold the Slay but This Hell was just not it. 

Dua’s Don’t Start Now is terrible.

OT: as much I love it, Deja Vu was probably not the best single to start BDay ( especially with the underwelming MV) for Bey ( or even Ring the Alarm as the second single)

Wait, I always thought Pocketful Of Sunshine was Natasha's sophomore lead? I have never heard this song 

 

I'd argue that Bey's Upgrade U might've been a better choice for the lead single than Déjà Vù in the US.

 

I'd also argue Hand On Your Heart for Kylie as well, but that entire sophomore album was a mistake.

Whatever the hell this was

 

 

I Really Like You shouldn’t have been the lead from Emotion, it was a cute hit but was super juvenile and killed the momentum.

She released N.B. in the UK/Europe and Pocketful of Sunshine in the US which had a handful of N.B. songs + some extras. While we’re on the topic though, N.B. as an album actually slays.

Thankfully, none of my favourite artists / bands suffered from this. Everybody in my signature released strong sophomore lead singles and albums.

And I definitely agree on IRLY not being a good lead for Emotion. Run Away With Me should've been the lead as it encapsulates the album way better.

Technically not her sophomore 1st single because she had released 3 Spanish albums before. But Shakira’s ENGLISH sophomore single, Don’t Bother, flopped so hard she went back in the studio, recorded Hips Don’t Lie, had her label pick up all the Oral Fixation Vol. 2 copies from retailers, and reprinted the album with HDL. The risky move paid off and the rest is history. Don’t Bother is still, however, her best English song and top 10 in her repertoire.

Not sure if this counts "I Wish" has 113 million views on youtube, but it wasn't even released in the UK.

In the US; I believe Love Like This was the lead single from her 2nd stateside album, while it was the third single in Europe. I Wanna Have Your Babies was never issued as a single here. Pocketful of Sunshine was the second single here, eventually getting released a few years later as the lead single off her third album in Europe.  Angel was the third single in North America while it wasn't released anywhere else. Then the era ended with Soulmate as the fourth single, which was actually the second single in Europe. 

I can't think of any that haven't been said yet, but

 

Deja Vu is one of Beyoncé's finest moments with ease.
