What are some of the worst musical trends ever?

 

I think one of the worst is the current trend of shorter songs made for TikTok. For example, the new Jonas Brothers song is not even 2 minutes 

Britney making it so that you didn't have to be talented to have a music career.

While it is not a new thing in music, I fully agree  

I feel like shorter songs have been a thing since 2017. It has more to do with streaming than TikTok, no?

 

2016 and those Chainsmoker-type songs. 

The shorter songs has to do with streaming, and producers themselves are choosing to make songs shorter since they know that's 

 

A - less work for them and can still deliver the same punch

B - more profitable streaming wise

I'm somewhat not feeling this potential trend by Spanish speaking artists of acronyms as titles (YHLQMDLG, LLYLM, TQG, etc).

Shouting considered to be a great vocal.

The worst trend is when singers and rappers record their music with a dick in their mouths.

• High-pitched, Alvin-esque vocal samples
• Sped-up or slowed-down vocals
• Roll/clap 808 beats from the late 2000s
• The beat drop as the chorus
• The homogeneity in popular music - what happened to having a range from genres from techno to bubblegum pop to rock to metal to R&B to rap?
• Really bad product placement in music videos
• Songs being used ad nauseam on TikTok and Instagram reels
• Certain noisy 1980s synth tones that I can't even describe in words
• Rent-a-rapper features that are obvious cash grabs (Kylie and MIMS? What the hell is that?)
• Auto-tune, both when used obviously as an effect (e.g. Cher's Believe) or to correct vocals
• Closed throat singing style that really does not translate well live
• Idol culture
• Labels suing each other over bogus claims of plagiarism (e.g., Dark Horse)
• Nicki Minaj

Taylor making it so you didn’t have to have performance skills and eye for visual imagery to have a music career

More of a cultural trend rather than a musical one but

 

A year having one or two big hits and the rest is a bunch of nothing.

 

I miss the days when top40 or BBH100 top10 was chockfull of smashes. Nowadays its the big hit. A few songs from over 6 months old and album tracks 🎃🎃🎃

the worst trend is that streaming has made these pop men (King Benito, Morgan Fallen) release "albums" with 30+ tracks, but none of my fave girlies have followed suit!!!!!!

Definitely. That's why people are bringing back old songs, because the new music is mostly not it.

I agree, although Lil Nas X has some decent songs. This Ice Spice girl is terrible, she sounds like my 8 year old niece trying to rap 

Short songs is the absolute worst, and I don't think it's because of streaming or TikTok. It's just pure laziness by the artists, because they could easily release extended versions to boost streams, and most don't.

 

That synth-ish production that was all over pop and R&B back in the last-00s. The-Dream and Stargate core.

 

Artists not bothering to name their albums (LM5, B7)

Yeah, I agree - short songs are the worst. You start listen to an album and boom - 25 minutes and you are done.
