Alicia Keys, what went wrong?

Featured Replies

No artist has smashing success with every single and album. It's not realistic. There's a peak and flop phase for all artists.

The gp just aren't feeling new image/sound. Girl On Fire was her last peak.

She should just thrive off of the old hits now.

  • 4 weeks later...

Nothing really went wrong, her label did her dirty which is why she left. Her label didn't value her as an artist which is why KEYS didn't do strongly because it was released during the Christmas season. I feel if it was released in Jan-Feb it would've done good numbers. She is still a household name and a strong stanbase (that you don't want to piss off) but I think she would've slayed more if she tried new things, but realistically it just wouldn't be herself. Her tour is doing well and people show up because she is a household name. Underdog made the Top 40 though like 2 years ago.

And also, honestly…the whole Swizz Beatz/Mashonda thing didn’t help either.

It’s still being brought up to this very day, even though Mashonda has long moved on.

:rip:

The gag is that she profited and even talked about it multiple times while Alicia is unbothered. A lot of people run with the whole Swizz/Mashonda just to be misogynistic against Alicia, when I read that Mashonda made the whole thing up for damage control because Swizz was still with another woman before Alicia. Mashonda gave Alicia **** and lied and the stans dragged her for making up the lie.

Hmmm most Alicia's albums were released just before black Friday to take advantage of that and Xmas season. I don't think it was sabotage just a failure to realize that times have changed. Also January kills albums now. It would have flopped harder.

And yes, no one cares about that Swizz Beats' story outside of the US.

Oh really? Interesting. I didn't know this.

She's doing arenas in Europe and it's going well right now. She's doing theatres here, but she could've easily done arenas because she's doing 3 LA shows here.

The good sis has a few amazing songs (Girl On Fire, If I Ain’t Got You, No One), and has been a part of some MAJOR bops (Empire State of Mind, My Boo, and Nobody [the DJ Khaled song, for those of you who don’t know get hip]). So why have most of her albums as a whole, especially the most recent few, and her foray into acting, flopped?

This is one of her worst tbh

OT: She released bad music after the forth album

Brand New Me aka her best song wasn't released as lead single in 2011

Also her music wasn't as soulful and catchy as Fallin' and No One and Empire State of Mind so decline came naturally since she lost her touch

In Common is a bop tho!

In her defense, she completely changed her image and stepped out of the mainstream.

H.E.R. took her spot

i think after Girl on Fire she needed a reinvention or some sort to keep people interested (i guess) that she didn't do, but instead she followed it with her worst album (HERE) in 2016 (even though In Common is one of her best songs) i feel like if she followed the trend or do something fresh in 2015/2016 it would've done wonders, but oh well at least ALICIA and KEYS are two of her best work but KEYS had horrible singles, ALICIA was saved by Underdog (kinda) and So Done (which is her best single in YEARS) yet both still kinda flopped with lack of promo (that i know of)

maybe if she collaborated with newer female R&B act like SZA, H.E.R. (especially since they share the same manager why haven't they collabed yet) or Summer Walker it might do something, the Khalid and Lucky Daye collab was something but the song sucks and they didn't even bother to really push it, same with the Snoh Aalegra collab from ALICIA which was one of the best song on the album

I'm so mad she didnt push the Snoh Aalegra collab... It sounded like a hit to me, it has that Alicia Keys classic sound too

Girl no Brand New Me being released as the 2nd song/ video is exactly why GOF album flopped

It should have been GOM -> Tears Always Win -> Fire We Make -> When It's All Over
