My take away wasn't that it was necessarily about the setting, but the principle. The idea of being forced to watch people tribute/reference/cosplay you & being forced to smile through it, despite behind the scenes getting threatened, LITERALLY INSTITUTIONALISED & drugged for suggesting a variance to a dance move and requesting new mixes of your own material. Her experience is incredibly specific & traumatic. I do agree that she probably finds it triggering to be referenced, particularly if it reminds her of her loss of control or autonomy over her own being.

If you read her best selling book, "The Woman In Me", which everyone should - she goes into detail about being denied power over her own output/music/performance/image during the cship, whilst being forced to sit back and watch others, namely her sister, essentially attempt to destiny swap & wear her identity & perform her music, with changes & mixes she'd been requesting & denied for years. This is giving that. Just her reflecting on the fact that she was and is, that girl. I don't think it's necessarily a jab at anyone in particular. Just like "Original Doll" was planned around the time the Pussycat Dolls were out, but it wasn't necessarily "shady" or mean spirited. Under a different set of circumstances, I'm sure she'd find this all flattering, but in the context of her experience, I understand why she has more of a cynical view.

She had no business serving like this. Her production is dated af & very of its time, but the foundation & BONES are there. Dark pop.

Because I'm floored at the quality & range. She kinda ate your faves up.
