I think it was inevitable. Ciara was the Queen of that ATL-hip hop style of music that was popular in the mid-to-late 2000’s. I think she went out with the fad, tbh.

Yes, her downfall was inevitable. The single choices, declining popularity of the crunk n b genre, and rumors of her being nasty to her management team... etc etc

Absolutely because her sound was bound to get tired really quick. Crunk is one of the most obnoxious sounds to come out of the 2000s

I might be one of the few, but I absolutely loved her pop sound. She should've released High Price as intended, and the album right away. This is especially considering that it was entirely recorded and leaked prior to the actual album's release. She could've recovered from the debacle that was Go Girl with Like A Surgeon. Whatever the case, followed by Love Sex Magic. But, I digress.

This flopped tho  Her label was basically scrambling for a hit. The mid to late 2000s were brutal for pop and R&B girls. If you didn't have at least a top 10 hit your album wouldn't get released.

 

OT: Mismanagement was the main culprit of this. If her team had faith I think the original version things might have been different.

 

Yes like most other r&b girls she failed to adapt to the new trends in music and failed to evolve as an artist. 

It wasn't inevitable. She just failed to reinvent herself the way some of her peers like Beyoncé did. That's how the music biz works.

The marketing. She made a very strong pop album with Fantasy Ride but was releasing urban singles... and the singles were mediocre. 

 

By the time they had a hit with Love Sex Magic they had burned a hole in the profit for the era and the label basically gave up after that.

I never understand people saying Ciara’s downfall was due to her “going too pop”. She barely went pop! Love Sex Magic isn’t that pop of a song. It’s more funky and R&B influenced and even its seen as dance pop, it’s a far cry from the popular EDM/dance pop of 2009.
 

Maybe it was too pop sounding for Urban radio, but that song wasn’t even sent to Urban radio and there was a different single for that format, so the point is moot.

 

If anything her problem wasn’t going pop enough. She should have been like Rihanna or Usher and fully embraced Pop/EDM styled music but she always did it in a half baked manner. Even when she tried it later with Overdose, it was half baked and didn’t really seem to be a single.

i think it also has to do with the fact her image was built on being like the young fresh new r&b starlet girl too when she debuted so as she shifted and got further into her career people paid attention to other girls

This. I was obsessed with that song and video. Crazy to think it was attached to a smash movie and it stil missed #1

Pick any one (or all of them, for that matter):

 

A) Jive/Zomba were disrespecting her and did not invest in her triple-disc-album idea.

 

B) She was LA Reid's legacy artist like Usher, and he was on his way out. I'm sure the new label head was on a "What have you done for me lately?" tip.

 

C) When she started having to fund her own videos (Gimmie Dat), and records with FULL VISUALS and/or radio adds dates were left off albums (Sweat, Sorry, Got Me Good).. I knew something was up.

 

D) Crunk'n'B was a musical fad, but her mentors Jazze Pha and Missy Elliott, and her chief collaborator Luda were less involved in her musical output.

 

E) I knew things were going downhill when Future wasn't putting Ciara in any of his music in any capacity (female lead in the visual, special appearance, feature, backing vocal).

 

F) Picking singles. Overdose, Tell Me What Your Name Is, Livin It Up, Turntables (w/ Chris Brown), and Turn It Up (w/ Usher) were all records that I'm sure CiCi had to fight for. Like BIG writing camp singles with label backing. Once you fight the label to release a track you like better than their choice, win, and your song doesn't pay off, it starts a downward spiral.

Well, let’s be realistic. Labels already hated releasing double disc albums because they were less profitable.

 

But a triple disc album?

And after Ciara’s previous album had already underperformed? 

She was in no position to be demanding anything like that
