it's been so long since someone broke into the mainstream like this in such a short time. Her streaming numbers and growth on social media in just 6 months is insane

I think their point is that GLB is no Just Dance or Poker Face; and also, they were comparing Chappel's "meteoric rise" to Gaga's, so you can't compare LG7's single to that. 

 

I honestly agree, there are a LOT of similarities to Gaga and Chappel's debut, but I just don't think pop stars get as big as they used to these days - the media landscape is more fragmented, so stars like Billie, Chappel, Sabrina etc don't feel as "big" as, say, Britney or Gaga did upon arrival. I think aesthetically and narratively Chappel can be called the "new Gaga," but truth be told I don't think the pop music landscape really allows for a "new Gaga" at this time. That said, Chappel is doing just fine.

Honestly, if your numbers are that high on Spotify, they kinda start to follow no patterns anymore (except the decrease on Sundays and increase on Mondays). If you look at the numbers of BOAF, they're pretty volatile: 1,2 million decreases, 1,4 million increases whenever, wherever

She snagged the cover of Hot Hits Malaysia and got a big boost on Hot Hits Philippines. 

 

Slipped from #1 to #2 on Hot Hits Japan, but still good (she had the cover last week already.)

Not to sound mean or anything, but go outside and talk to people IRL and outside of ATRL/stan Twitter if you can't see Chappell's meteoric rise.  A meteoric rise in 2024 is wholly different from what it was in 2008.

Hypothetically speaking, if the album were to leak (not now, but after an announcement, close to the release), would you listen?  I randomly reminisced to the feeling of pressing play to a brand new album of hers and I fear I wouldn't be able to wait.
