Right? :deadbanana2: The production is immaculate. That bridge breakdown. :jonny:

Ugh, this quote. One of my faves. And this was her mindset in 2015 when she was just entering her 30s and had a newfound fire in her belly post ARTPOP to prove everyone who wrote her off wrong. She even reiterated this in the Billboard WOTY speech. A moment.

These days she seems so much happier, calmer, more mature, confident in and passionate about her talents and artistry. She's really coming into her own this decade. She's going to accomplish some amazing, amazing things. I know it. Can't wait to see her soar new heights.

It's just really compressed and quiet compared to the standard of songs in the charts. They needed to go harder and bring up the levels

Literally THEE entertainment industry. No one from the 21st century does it like her

Thankfully Gaga isnt following whatever "standards" we have

:gaygacat4:

Productions on DWAS is great by both concept and execution.

DWAS' volume is kinda low compared to other songs out there. Whenever I'm in my car, I had to turn up the volume when I'm playing DWAS so it matches the loudness of the other songs in my playlist. Not sure if it's the same case with you guys, but that's what I notice these last couple of days.

I noticed that too, same with the Joanne album

DWAS is one of the most well-produced songs in her catalog. The guitar and "ooohh hhooss" sound so heavenly. And there's a reason the bridge is going viral.

I was one sentence in and thought "oh, this is a MadMax post" :bibliahh::bibliahh: NO shade, I usually try to appreciate your nuanced production-audiophile takes, but it's such a Gaga Base meme seeing the downvotes pile up.

It's the same with Born This Way and Chromatica, they have so much more compression than TFM and ASIB which are her biggest albums for a reason. I hope this isn't an indication for LG7

Just me as a music nerd checking in, but Gaga as of recent has been a proponent of the anti-loudness movement in music production. There has been an on-going trend of increasing loudness in commercial pop/rock/hip-hop music for decades at the expense of actual distortion/decrease of sound quality on records.

Old records that used to be only available on Vinyl were remastered and pressed on CD/made available for streaming to be extremely loud and lot of the detail of the music production has gotten lost on the way there. There's actually even an entire Wikipedia article on it called "Loudness wars".

This for example is a graph of the same Beatles track, that got louder with ever remastered re-release:

The Fame and TFM were mastered REALLY loudly, if you look at them in Audacity they are even WAY louder than the 2000s remaster of that Beatles track in the gif. Born This Way was definitely mastered audibly quieter than TFM & TFM, ARTPOP again was incredibly loud. Joanne is to date her quietest master (which is probably due to a lot of analog instruments & microphones used in the recording process which have a lot of white noise, which is difficult to remove and make it sound "natural", which kinda would have been against the entire point Gaga was trying to make with Joanne), the ASIB soundtrack was a really good balance keeping the analog sound of Joanne, but polishing it a bit and being able to go a smidge louder. Chromatica actually has a really great balance of being dancey, but not too loud to the point of distortion and losing details.

Wait I never knew this. Thanks!

I've seen a post celebrating the anniversary of both The Fame (album) & Applause (video), but it's actually missing one!

Happy 10th anniversary to another one of her duets, 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love' :eli:

Ohh this is very interesting.  I always noticed that BTW (the single) and much of the album sounds like there is a lot of… space (?) within the production.  Like the production has room to breathe, even on the more intense songs, but you can hear it best during the quieter moments.  Idk if this is due to what you're talking about, but yes the details sound crisper somehow.

Joanne was really educational for me because I could literally hear the spit coming out of her mouth on the microphone on some songs, that's how crystal clear the recordings are when I use my wired headphones and listen to the lossless versions.
