What the next lead single needs is an anthemic catchy chorus. That’s whats been missing from all her lead singles since applause 

we all know Gar was the saving grace of HOG, preventing it from going rotten and becoming the biggest adult drama film of the pandemic

Literally the whole point is that she does her own thing. Nobody wants Gen Z bait from Lady Gaga. Outside of the odd collab, it ain't happening and that's for the best.

I want a 2020’s version of Just Dance. An anthemic party song that is undeniably catchy.

 

In retrospective, HOH wasn't bad for her. Her performance was liked and she is considered the saving grace of the movie. I think the Oscar nominations morning (and the NY and LA premieres hair and makeup) added a grey cloud on the whole era, but in general she was nominated for everything and even won some awards, was praised and proved ASIB wasn't a lucky situation. 

No reason to stress yourself over what she’ll do next as we have absolutely no say in it.

This, even the negative reviews had Gaga being praised for her performance, that's why she hit all the precursors + NYFCC.

 

The backlash started when she was starting to appear strong in the race from NYFCC win, the only one getting double SAG nominations, HOG performing well with BAFTA shortlist, Box Office results, ecc.

 

I still remember Anne Thompson having a meltdown on Goldderby when Gaga was the only getting the BAFTA nomination... I feel like that even if HOG was more praised, the backlash would have happened either way, she was making it seems too easy at just her second movie|try, that's why they were mad basically.

It never was. She got universal acclaim from critics, lead the film into becoming the only successful drama of the pandemic era, won a trifecta, and went 4/4 at the precursors. All for her 2nd film lead.

 

Even the snub will be good for her in the end because it will give her a narrative for J:FaD. And it was ICONIC. Like the fact that she was snubbed is more memorable than the actual BA winner that year. Let's hope she's learned to be pickier and choose better scripts though.

That part. A lot of film stans genuinely can't handle Gaga, at least during that period. As a trained actor myself, the fact that she's picked up an entire artform so seemingly fast, one that many spend years and years training in, is crazy impressive. A lot of them stan other actresses and are clearly threatened. She's gotten tons of acclaim, she's done well in award season so far, the public stans, and she's clearly going to be the next big movie star. The only way for them to cope is by delusionally diminishing her.

Anyway, ASIB didn't smash because it was ballads or more "adult". It just served undeniable quality that showcased the breadth of her talent. She needs to take a quality first approach beyond anything else.

 

The whole "ASIB smashed so the public only wants that" gives Hollywood trying to recreate Game of Thrones with a bunch of other fantasy shows and all of them bombing. Or Netflix releasing one forgotten romcom after the other because some were successful before.

Exactly and they're not used to popstars transitioning this way to movies, last one was Cher 40 years ago and it took her more time starting with supporting roles, the moment she confirmed her acting abilities and movie star power, they punished her as well with 'The Mask' snub.

The fact that for the HOG role were took in consideration actresses like Angelina Jolie and other important A list names, it doesn't matter if Ridsly Scott is not at the top of its game, Gaga still managed to work with a legendary director who did 'Alien', 'Thelma & Louise', 'Blade Runner' and 'Gladiator' at only her second movie.

JFAD was definetly one of the most wanted roles as well.. I fear the fumes will be even bigger if JFAD is gonna have the same success of first one.

 

The bigger the star, the biggest the target.

Not really. She built her career off of high-quality pop anthems that no one would consider to be traditionally "adult". And Bad Romance is hands-down her most acclaimed piece of music. I love ASIB but wouldn't consider "high-quality" in part because it was more traditionally "mature". It's just incredibly well-written music that's also aimed to an older demo.

The last few pages make clear that what people want and expect from her is quite fragmented among the fans.
