What's everyone's view of Renaissance here? I went through the discog- Lemonade is top tier.  CC has great stuff but can afford a trim. Reni- not able to get into at all.  House music isn't for me ig

Its her best album to me. Sonically its more than just house music. Its a very rich and diverse soundscape and she pulls from many genres. Not many albums can say they feature rap, dembow, r&b, hyper pop, disco, funk etc in a cohesive package. The album plays like a DJ set and you just keep looping forever. The transitions are perfectly crafted. She created magic with that album imo.

 

You said you liked Lemonade so I get why Renaissance might not be clicking. Its a complete 360 on the melancholy and rawness of Lemonade.

Renaissance is a LOT to digest at a first listen + its super different from what Bey has done up until this point. Let it sit a bit, listen to it closely and completely in the order of the album and before you know it, it'll completely win u over. Its truly immaculate

her best album  it lowkey made everyone else's music sound so dull and uninteresting, I couldn't listen to anything else for a good 2 months. if you appreciate production, beats, vocal layering... this album is HEAVEN. an out-of-this-world sonic experience.

For real!!! I never understood why directors don't have HD digital versions of their own work in the first place...for example you can clearly see that the Single Ladies video is just the LQ version badly upscaled. Bootylicious and Survivor are great though

Girl we all been there. Each of us' first listen of Renaissance was CRAZY (not in the best way). I truly H.A.T.E. house music and I truly mean it.

 

now mark my words : Renaissance is literally her BEST album. The production of the PROJECT, track by track, is IMMACULATE. Literally this album which was marketed as a "no skip" truly is.

I was overwhelmed by Renaissance on first listen, like really overwhelmed, but IMO, it's her best work.

Let me add something :

 

During the first listen, this album sounds like ANYTHING BUT A BEYONCE ALBUM.

 

As I'm speaking to you now, I can tell you this album is literally THE MOST BEYONCE ALBUM. It literally shows how she masters her craft genre by genre, word by word, vocal by vocal.

 

Renaissance is TRULY INCREDIBLE.

 

And don't get me started on the tour… I don't know ANYONE who could tell you he was not literally TRAUMATIZED by the Renaissance concert. 
 

I have already said this but I know when this woman records an album, she's also mapping how it's gonna be on a stage. Because Renaissance was made to be lived on a stage.

I still can't believe that she didn't put the Renaissance Film on streaming platforms

 

7 more weeks to go ladies.

 

I just remembered that Julius tackled to the ground a girl that was running towards B at the end of this performanceit was like watching a wrestling fight

I took the day off work for Rennie's release and I spent the entire day playing it on repeat, absolutely gagged. I was obsessed from the very first listen. It's easily my favourite of all her albums.

Renaissance's only miss is Church Girl, which sounds like a Sasha Fierce reject. If she was going to reheat nachos she should have just house Standing On The Sun there.

Both Break My Soul and Church Girl are bops and Renaissance would be a worse album if either one of them weren't on it

I remember the first impressions being a mixed bag. Barbz and Little Monsters were trying really hard to make it out to be awful during the leak, but upon first listen it was this instant realization this is her magnum opus and it was universally acclaimed without the need for a film. It's unlike any of her other albums and a breath of fresh air, like we went through years of seriousness and we finally got a fun album while still retaining a lot of depth and highlighting black culture. It can't listen to a song without listening to it in full. 

Things I wish I could hear for the first time again:

 

1.) the beat drop in I'm That Girl 

2.) The mfing Alien Superstar outro 

3.) Cuff It

4.) The transition from Energy-BMS

5.) Church Girl

6.) The first run in POTS 

7.) The "AH! Ride it…" in VG 

8.) The beat switch in Heated 

9.) The Heated chant 

10.) Thique's mfing BRIDGE 

11.) AUIYM

12.) The very, very end of SR (this may seem shady but it literally begs for you to start the album over again)  

 

I've said it many times before but I'll say it again, Renaissance is THE greatest album, ever.
