Late last night I made an impromptu playlist of some of my favorite videos from IASF to BIK and it really lifted my spirits :'( Once in a generation artistry right there

I DID THE SAME THING!! I don’t like the “This is…” playlists on Spotify so decided to make my own (including deep cuts like Runnin)

Ok. I've had my lunch and I'm back. I'm fine. :deadbanana2: It's still quite stable on iTunes and it's trying to rebound back into the top 10 on AM.

I said this last week but Spotify is going to be her toughest market this era. Yes the song is streaming better than alot of the recent releases that went top 10, but its not nearly as stable as on other platforms. She simply took a big hit by avoiding that platform and she could be much stronger. The streams will bottom out snd she'll receive a cute average run. I remember freaking out over Megan's Sweetiest Pie and that song still does 1 million a day after 4 months. I just want Bey to stay on the vhart for a while. She's never had that for obvious reasons.

Isn’t the Hot 100 top 10 + new debuts being revealed today? :duca:

Even if it drops in Spotify, I think the song will chart stably with radio support

i think all the spotify stuff seems over sensationalized or maybe somebody can break it down on what all the perceived "damage" is about. sure she didn't have Lemonade on there for 3 years...thats just Lemonade...the rest of her discography was always there in full including her biggest hits & best selling albums. we're not talking about somebody like Jay, Taylor Swift, or others who had their discographies completely removed. so i fail to see how this is relevant outside of Lemonade playing catch up with the rest of her music in terms of streams.

then we talk about streaming being poor yet when the lists for most streamed females are out...isn't Beyonce always someone in the Top 5-10 of all time for just about every platform?

I'm hoping it sneaks into the top 15. Would be extremely surprised if it managed to make it into the top 10.

I somehow have a feeling the video's fashion won't be the colourful affair people expect, but something more industrial and streamlined like the sophisticated slick grey-black-with-shiny/colourful-accents of the 1980s/early 1990s...think Claude Mantana, YSL, Armani 1980s fashion, which she would just EAT UP...

I get this mood from the Show Me Love video reference itself, the single cover, and just the general clean, slick sound of the song itself. It's not maximalist happy colours track, it's kind of technical but with a lot of personality. So sort of something between exectuive realness and ballroom eleganza!

Just a theory...

This is quite reasonable, I was thinking 11-12.

It's not only Spotify. It's social media and streaming platform all together. We're talking about the woman who hasn't engaged with the GP since 2011 and has not used newer Internet media to her advantage. Her approach is very traditional in the sense Prince and MJ operated later in their careers, there's a level of disconnect which doesn't necessarily work in the age of the internet. Sure it gives her a level of mystique and an untouchable status, but it's a double edged sword. We're talking about the woman who hasn't done a talk show since 2011, hasn't been apart of the newer promotional media, and only relies on very ancient award shows like VMAs/BET/Grammys which no one tunes into anymore. Literally a Hot Ones or Carpool Karaoke would have had more engagement than any of those Lemonade era performances. And if we're being completely transparent, Bey relies heavily on calculated PR and hype which is ironic because she said she didn't want the hype during the 4 era. Yet, that is exactly what fueled self-titled and Lemonade. This is exactly why her team is handling the Renaissance era a bit different this time.

I'd say Taylor handled this better than Bey in terms of balancing a private life and her career.

frequent releases and playlisting increases catalogue and overall streams, which then effects how often an artist is recommended or played by spotify’s algorithm

she pretty much avoided spotify for years and didn’t invest much in playlisting so she doesn’t have the same amount of listeners as artists who release more frequently and stay playlisted

not to mention she basically said “**** spotify” on one of her songs and was a shareholder with a direct competitor so for a while i believe spotify intentionally did not support her releases

but it looks like that’s changed with BMS and her team is putting more effort in promoting on the platform

it says a lot about the staying power of her catalogue hits that they have the streams that they do

Her catalog suffered and still is. Yes she is still top 10 for female artists. But she received more streams a few years ago when Spotify has less users and before the Gift and EIL. Her older albums also outstream Lemonade. The numbers are there. She knew what it was when she released EIL on Tidal and had to rush that mess over to Spotify cause the numbers were abysmal.

For years there was a banner saying Lemonade wasn't available to stream. From there, alot of people simply assumed all her music was on Tidal. To this day I see so many comments on Tik Tok where they're asking about a song from the Gift, Lemonade and EIL that they've never heard of.

The past 3 years of that girl’s career has really been taking Bey’s playbook and doing it better :rip: From the surprise releases to the private life.

Can’t hate the player chile…

very much this... in an age when Cardi B can turn her social media presence into superstardom with one hit, we are in an era where what you do online can have huuuuuge imapct. like, imagine Beyoncé even went live on IG once, let alone consistently engaged on social media. It would be a very different Beyoncé and perhaps she'd have a very different spotlight on the consumption of her media.

...that being said, I do think what she's done has been incredibly savvy and has worked to her favour. Through her moves, she was able to evolve and elevate herself into the pantheon of legends rather than that of the accessible star and reliable icon. Relatability, even at her most attainable, has never been her selling-factor, so trying to force that through social media interactions would probably not do much and likely just open her to unfair critiques.

Through the use of an elusive persona, back-to-back-to-back-to-back artistic excellence, and first-class moves, she's turned herself into a sort of luxury brand popstar: one who everyone pretty much agrees is one to be revered, and whose name alone like Cadillac or Rolls-Royce is used as amarker itself of achievement and top-notch status not dependent necessarily on sales, but on what she represents and offers the world.

I don't think people in here understand how out of touch they are when it comes to Internet media nowadays. Everything is fast paced, everything is replaceable. Media formats are getting shortened to 15 second videos on TikTok, people have shortened their attention spans. Music is less than 3 minutes now and they come and go. Longevity is very hard to achieve and you have to play the game for that. Look how fast the newer it girls/boys eras went (with the exception of a minority) compared to 5 years ago. Ariana, Adele, The Weeknd, Billie, etc, just came and went, eras don't pan out over two years anymore. Navigating through the industry is harder than ever with the oversaturated media consumption and there really is no sense of "superstars" anymore.

Bey took a massive 6 year break with her solo catalogue while all of this was happening. We could compare her to Rihanna, both of them have not released an album in the same time frame. But what's the difference is Rihanna had all of the exposure with Fenty doing Youtube interviews, events, being in public, etc. She was generally more connected to her audience than Bey and absolutely knew her market. Bey has been very conservative and the way her team handled eras was lackluster doing primarily award shows, calculated PR articles, and magazine interviews to promote. :rip: She missed Carpool Karaoke, Ellen, very popular podcasts at their peak, newer media, while all of this was happening.

The audience is searching for a relatable figure and that is preferable over an untouchable Goddess. It's the reason why selfie-like Beyonce Instagram posts have more engagement/likes than her posing in front of a blank wall just so she could play the paparazzi. Anyways, I don't think Bey cares though. She's always been music not the bling and she will be rewarded for it in retrospective. If she did, she would have played the game. Just my observation and two cents, I'm really into marketing. :priceless:
