Every communication or marketing aspect look amateurish, lazy and sometimes borderline unprofessional. She is definitely presented as premium and luxury but the marketing and communication  don’t go with a luxury brand. Not like during ST and Lemonade. Although she was a major saboteur, things were clean and neat.

Things have always been so organised, so professional, that everything around her now seems to be run with very little professionalism and investment. Nothing she has done since The Gift sans the music/tour is worthy of THE BEYONCÉ, at least not the one the ST heralded. In particular, the communication aspect.

But it’s not just her tbh, Chloé is just as awfully presented. No direction, no professionalism, nothing is tight.

The music remains fantastic so there’s that. But will it endure with the way it’s treated? That is not sure. Whether it is on Spotify, Deezer or AM, her most played  songs are from the 00’s and 4, what they have in common is that they were exposed to the GP and not just the fans.  But anyway, only time will tell.

I definitely agree. The way she uses social media is also extremely inconsistent

It has to be exhausting making excuses constantly for the terrible marketing, and promotion :rip:

We've already moved into saying it's an art film for only super fans to prepare for the $19 million total opening weekend (and only weekend)

Jlo does whatever Parkwood creative does anyway so this is a classic catch 22.

Has anyone here, even through massive promotional Hollywood campaigns, ever bought movie tickets more than a month in advance for something that you weren't already a fan of to begin with? And if so, what sold you? What was the secret marketing tool that got you to do this?

If we are talking about the general public, people generally don't plan so far in advance to go see a movie. They think "I'm interested in that film. We should go see that movie when it's out!" not "I'm interested in that film. I am going to buy us tickets 42 days in advance." A movie ticket is very much a commodity that people expect to be able to purchase AT the theatre, if not that then with a few days of planning.

Hmm.

I'm with you in the sense that Bey fans are a little different than say Taylor fans. They are older and thus have priorities but crucially show up for her where it matters (see: first-week album sales and tour gross).

I personally know stans who are so hyped and have stressed that they are going with 10+ friends, who haven't bought a ticket.

This, though, brings me to...the not-so-good realities at hand.

There's an awareness issue. A super stan Hive friend of mine, who ironically sent me the trailer, didn't even know tickets were on presale. In coddling Bey, it's easy to chalk to this the whole "older, busier Hive" schtick, but they simply didn't know because it wasn't in the key messaging.

I get SO annoyed when she posts without key information. There's no reason for that unnecessary lyric caption on the trailer when it really could have said/or at the very least included: "Out Everywhere December 1st / Presale Tickets Available Now".

I defend Bey a lot, but it's missed moments like this (which have happened with other stuff before) that really lend support to the complainer Hive. Like, objectively, not including key messaging doesn't make sense because it costs her/her team nothing yet could make a world of difference...especially at the early stage where they should be capitalizing on announcement hype and FOMO.

Like, it’s infuriating. People might say we are being nit picky but these are literally elementary level marketing aspects her team refuses to use. Another example is they didn’t even bother re-posting the trailer or poster to her IG stories (which anecdotally I can say I know way more people who quickly tap through stories rather than scrolling on their IG feeds). What is their complete resistance to clearly communicating her music projects/releases?

I know she’s her own woman with her own less than smart ideas but for things like this I sometimes blame the Hive’s mentality for feeding her ego. Comments like “she sold out the tour with only 1 IG post!!1!1!1!!!!” re-enforces the idea that she’s “thee queen” and doing anything beyond a subpar acknowledge of a release is beneath her and desperate looking.

All moaning aside, I will forever refute the idea that Bey doesn't care, because of this simple equation:

Not that hard.

Stripping all emotion/stanism/comparison/"no promo" blues aside, there's a purely commercial explanation for why Bey is incentivized to make the movie work and why I feel they'll have some stuff up their sleeve.

This is the first time in a long time that her visual numbers will be on front street, as she's largely gone with the streamers for recent projects. Tanking with the film impacts the coin she can ask for from another partner in the future. Who's gonna pay her $30-40 million if this movie opens with $15 million? It's simple market value analysis that if I can do off head, her team will know firsthand.

There's a lot we don't know, but what we do know without a shadow of a doubt is that Bey is about her coin. It's not even a debatable thing.

Call me delulu, but for the reasons above, I can see another trailer dropping or a tease. A something. Especially if the visuals really are somehow officially part of this film. While the trailer we have may be what the film is, I also get the sense it was whipped up to make the deadline for the announcement. It's anyone's guess when the final product has to be submitted, but it's not far fetched for a super-sizzle of sorts to be released...possibly teasing the visuals.

Has she sent an email or text to promote the film? I don’t remember getting anything

Black Is King had almost 10 trailers. They are coming I’m sure. BIK first trailer was also awful so she is being consistent.

Bey is a walking contradiction. She loves money but she stopped the tour :rip:

by the way, the film is already a success based on the presale. She has already made more money than she would’ve selling DVDs. This is probably the reason why she went into hiding :lmao:

Having a film in the biggest theater chain in america is marketing to the general public. Having it premiere across the world at all the major screens implies they want to make money off this, there are actual indie films who get waaaaaay less screens than this. This is clearly to make money so to not market to the public would be foolish

You've shared a tweet claiming Parkwood "failed" at marketing because she "doesn't market to the general public" but are telling me releasing a film in the biggest theatre chain is marketing to the general public. Which is it? Perhaps it can be somewhere in between, and thus there must be a reason...

Either:

  1. Parkwood/Beyoncé thinks they are doing phenomenal based on the sales figures Rumi prints out and places on their desks while Sir is busy shredding the actual figures.
  2. Parkwood/Beyoncé suddenly forgot years of experience and decades of case studies and cannot figure out why their numbers aren't so high
  3. Parkwood/Beyoncé are not prioritizing sales and having a baseline guarantee of at least moderate success, instead prefer to continue the "Beyoncé" method where Beyoncé purposefully holds back commercial success seemingly in an effort to imbue a seriousness to her work OR just to be mysterious OR whatever it is...

For me, #3 seems clearest, and it's not just because I wrote it to sound that way. We're just so caught up with wanting Beyoncé to maximize everything (and I know she should maximize something), that we forget maybe she just doesn't care and prefers functioning in that zone where she never has to feel pressure to reach a target, and can just create. It seems to me that to achieve this as one of the most commercial pop-stars of all time (Beyoncé from 1997-2010 was everywhere), it might mean purposefully holding back a LOT, even stuff that makes sense to do.

I have learnt not to expect or think you know everything, but I am in this camp as well more or less.

It's Beyoncé after all, so I think if she does promo, it's not going to start a month ahead and right up to the date, it's going to be within the week prior, and nothing major but having its intended effect. A new trailer makes sense, given I'd assume in this month they are finalizing it and able to share something that better advertises the film.

Okay I am stoned not but imagine the power of BEING Beyoncé (or any major celeb really).

Like you know at any moment you could just drop a new trailer and cause havoc.

Or drop visuals, new music, etc. etc. etc. and it'll make headlines in the major news across the world, within an hour, if not sooner.
