For sure, thank you! Excited to listen to DF now but I'll start with TWOTW. 

Their first album isn’t even bad but it’s so slow. They like brought that vibe back and perfected it on destiny fulfilled, UGH what a discography

I’m not a huge fan of Destiny Fulfilled - mostly because of the mixing and mastering. Something about it sounds like they was tryna make it poppy, and Beyoncé’s lead vocals drown the others in the choruses. Example: Listen to “If” vs “If (Live).” The difference is immense.

 

But Lose My Breath, Through With Love, and Free are career highlights - and there is something so fresh about “Girl” (but I think it’s because of the iconic video - the best video of the era!)

I completely disagree, most of album feels timeless to me and less poppy than TWOTW and survivor. If is not a good example, the studio version sounds like Beyoncé is dominant and then the live version sounds like kelly is dominant. And tbh in the studio version of their songs bey is usually dominant all the way back to their first album lol she had the strongest vocal

the fashion was SO right in that video too... they pulled their reference off while still making it DC.

The poppy songs on DF (lose my breath, girl) are excellent too, I don’t see the issue! I love every song except bad habit and through with love kind of sounds dated, the vocal kind of makes up for it though

It was very clear they wanted to make a “soulful” album but they wanted to reach their pop and international audience they had before. Although it is more soulful, seems like they toned down the musicality for more melody which gives it that pop album feel.

I can see what you’re saying. It feels like a blend of classic r&b sounds with 2000s pop sounds. Imo it makes the music more dynamic and bey and tenitra sang DOWNNNN i love that album
