Honestly alot of her older music should be remastered, the only one that hasn't aged too bad is DIL, I still adore B'Day

Before Beyoncé there was Britney, Pink, and Christina etc. Beyoncé changed the way the pop star is supposed to look. I'm not saying Beyoncé hasn't changed pop for Black women or for women like her... but I do not think it is the singular impact that we can credit Diana for in that regard. Obviously it's no shade to Beyoncé whatsoever but after the doors Diana opened, kept open by Donna and remodelled by Whitney (as far as mainstream pop goes), it's a quite different situation for Beyoncé's era of Black women in pop. When'd DC came out they were near the end of a huge R&B girl groups wave like TLC, En Vogue and SWV and also alongside Black teen popstars like Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah or even Mýa. Then as a solo artist she came up alongside equally successful ladies like Ashanti and Alicia Keys. Beyoncé was part of a well established movement. And that's without mentioning the impact of pop of less "pop" artists like Aretha, Gladys, Chaka, Tina and then the more pop-aimed singers like Janet, Toni, even Mariah. That's all I meant...just that Diana is basically the first of her kind.

 

Diana had peers like Dionne who started getting success around the time of the Supremes, or predecessors like Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horn or even Josephine Baker but it was not so all consuming and supremely excellent as Diana Ross and the Supremes...as not just the most popular Black female singer(s) of the 1960s but THE most popular singer(s) period...second only to the Beatles.

 

Beyoncé FOR SURE burst through in her own way and opened many new doors doing exactly what you said she did though. That's for sure.

Same. If it wasn’t for the Verizon presale and one of my friends getting selected for the BeyHive presale, I would’ve had to buy tickets from resellers.

A lot of people aren’t ready for this conversation but I think bey and her curves are a big part of why bbls are in. Kim and her butt are a beyoncé tribute and it’s had a wide reaching effect, that lady’s true beauty icon is Beyoncé. A lot of people want to look like the kardashian family who really wanna look like bey
