  1. ATRL: The place where we are allowed to discuss Hitler, but forbidden from talking about JK Rowling. ATRL: A place in which Ben Shapiro’s views are allowed to be platformed, but all discussion of JK Rowling is forbidden. ATRL: A place in which Donald Trump’s views are allowed to be platformed, but all discussion of JK Rowling is forbidden. ATRL: A place in which basically every ruthless and evil authoritarian are allowed to be discussed, but where discussion of JK Rowling is forbidden. I have to say, this has got to be the most reactionary, impulsive, misogynistic, and authoritarian decision I’ve ever seen an online forum take. A slippery slope, indeed.

The fact is, Renaissance could have been her resurgence. It really had the potential to be the most commercially successful (relative to the times) she’s ever had. It would have given her more clout and the hype for Act 2 would have been insane. However, please know that Bey is very happy with how this era is going. All she’s hearing is that the album is all over tiktok and that people are creating their own visuals to the album. In her mind right now, she’s a marketing genius whose album has become part of the cultural zeitgeist. She is not looking at the sales or the streaming numbers, because she’s not as good of a business woman as she thinks she is (she’s not bad of course, but in her mind I’m almost certain she thinks she’s unparalleled). If she was a business genius, she’d understand how commercial success in her music career is directly related to financial prosperity in other eras.
  3. White North American and European teens and twinks spending their parents money on disgustingly priced tickets to go see a very mediocre and conventionally attractive white blonde female artist is nothing revelatory nor revolutionary and means literally nothing.
  4. Can’t say this is deserved. Cuff It isn’t even close to being the best song on Renaissance, never mind her discography as a whole.
  5. This is why no one outside of ATRL believes Taylor is even close to Adele in terms of stature and fame. On no planet and in no dimension is Taylor a bigger female star than Adele. Anyone who thinks that is delusional. Adele is famous in every single corner of the world. Taylor appeals to those people who consider mediocrity a revelation.
  6. Thank God for common sense is all I’m going to say on this matter.
  7. if your first thought to my very considered and respectful post is to bring up Hitler, white supremacy, and to tell me to post in alt-right forums, I would seriously suggest that you might not be a very good person.
  8. I really don’t see the point in allowing JK Rowling to be a topic on ATRL as anyone who is perceived as being in even slight agreement with anything she says—even if they explicitly state that they disagree with the majority of her views—is automatically warned and possibly banned from the site. There is no room for nuance or discussion on ATRL at this point. Unfortunately for all of us, that’s not how the world works. You can censor people on an online forum, but these discussions are being had everyday in the real world and on almost every other forum and platform, and all ATRL is accomplishing by shutting down these discussions is robbing its users of the opportunity to increase the robustness of their arguments, to engage in good-faith discussions surrounding trans issues, and diminishing their intellectual autonomy and ability to learn. That’s not to say I don’t understand why ATRL has made the decision they have, but I have now been warned multiple times for engaging in these discussions with an open heart and was suspended for a full 24 hours for accidentally misgendering someone (something I would never do intentionally). In my opinion, this does not help the movement, it hinders it. My opinion on JK Rowling is extremely nuanced. And that’s why I will no longer participate in discussions pertaining to her or trans issues on ATRL anymore. But I will continue those discussions outside of ATRL in real life and on other platforms in which dissent and disagreement is not automatically viewed as hateful. And because I know there’s going to be someone very slow out there drawing all the wrong conclusions from this post, let me make it very clear for you: I do not agree with JK Rowlings retweet here and think it is rightfully being labelled as ignorant and hateful.
  9. The fact we have people actually willing to primary Biden in 2024 is progress.
  10. She really needs to humble herself she never really had that successful of a career to be talking about other artists that way. There are many more successful and better singers that were left off of that list. Her voice was brilliant, don’t get me wrong. But the list was never about vocal talent per se, but its recognisability and utilisation of said voice to fulfil certain artistic objectives.

  12. You can criticise said art; For art is a wholly subjective and personal endeavour. But you should never set out to censor said art. To stifle the expression of creatives is a staple of totalitarianism. If you believe in freedom and its fundamental components, you should reject absolutism and the insidiousness of censorship.
  13. I’m not being funny but Chaka has got to be one of the most quintessential example of bitterness in old age that I’ve ever seen. She has completely marinated in a bitterness and resentment towards those that achieved more in their careers than she could ever dream of. She is not a legend. If she’s a legend, then almost anyone is. She is a singer of her time who has a couple of classics. That does not make someone a legend. I’m sure most people over the age of 25 know a few of her songs, but almost no one knows they were sung by her, nor are they be able to recall one singular album that she released, nor one popular performance. As for Adele, she has undergone massive vocal surgery and vocal changes throughout her career. She is not in her prime. Her prime was 21. I urge anyone to listen to her concert on David Letterman. She is without a doubt one of the voices of her generation, regardless of her supposed range. But, even if that were not true, she is still one of the most prolific and respected songwriters in the game. She has penned countless classics and penned the best selling album of the 21st Century. Not to mention she plays a couple of instruments and is a sound musician. Chaka cannot say the same. Chaka should humble herself. She will be forgotten. Those she speaks of will not. All she is doing by speaking their names is making them even more powerful than they were before. Give it a rest Chaka and bow out gracefully. Take some notes from Anita Baker for your own sake.
