Tems described working with Beyonce as an iconic experience, one she would never forget as it made up the best part of her year (2022); she discusses the uncertainty that hovered around the collaboration till it had been officially released. Tems, in the interview, stated:

 

 

“You’re never really sure until it comes out. And it wasn’t something that I was focused on [or] keeping track of.”

Tems doesn't close off the possibility of shooting a music video for the song as she also added:

“Of course it means something to me. If someone told my five-year-old self listening to Destiny’s Child that one day you’re going to have a song with one of them, I might just be confused.”

Love Tems, but didn't The Hive find some old tweet of hers (when the Ren tracklist) dropped of her sliiiiiightly (slightly) back-hand complimenting Bey. It was to the effect of "Was never a a huge fan, but can't stop watching Homecoming".

 

Literally nothing wrong with that and her truth, but probably explains the lack of hoopla from her about Move. She did tweet something nice the day of Ren and a one liner in an interview. Pretty sure she's mentioned being a Rih stan. elsewhere. It also doesn't help that she's very hard to point out on Move. Actually wish Bey used her better. 

 

Off-Topic: I've never ever gotten how any of these girls could not be "into" Bey. She's such a standard-bearer. Especially for the new gen, who were raised with her as "the" example. But different strokes for different folks, ay.

Some people are truly just delusional. My older brother is like a true irrational Beyoncé hater type. Always talks about how she is only successful because of her marriage, and how she would have fallen off long ago if Jay didn’t co-sign her. And he’s also the biggest MJ fan, so he’s constantly saying she has nothing on MJ. Like I don’t get it. And then I have friends who say she’s boring. Or that she needs to stop with the fans on stage.

 

Like WHAT? I had a coworker tell me she hated that Beyoncé always had her hair flowing on stage like a goddess, while while literally at her desk, in an air conditioned office, WITH A DESK FAN BLOWING ON HER FACE  baby if you need a desk fan while sitting still, Beyoncé needs a fan while she’s DANCING.

 

If there's one thing I'd wish she'd do more of, is just casually upload live accoustic versions of songs

I didn't much care for the way she phrased this, either.  Like who has a collab with Beyonce and wasn't "focused" or "keeping track" of if it would be released.

It's perfectly suited for the job it needed to do in the end credits. If it doesn't translate to your ideal listening experience then that's fine. It's meant to soundtrack the ever-forward, insessant, determination of the William sisters' life as told by their home videos at the end of the film. Asking it to be an ear-worm radio hit with a standard build-up, bridge and denouement is asking it to be something it was not intended to be.

 

If RENAISSANCE has taught us anything, it's that Beyoncé is not afraid to go outside the bounds of traditional song structures and use production like paint on a canvas to convey the desired emotions she wishes to impart.

 

 

I don't think its an either/or... There are a million ways sonically and lyrically achieve this or any target within music. Just because people didn't like this execution, doesn't mean they want a radio earworm.

Her inbetween tracks are almost always mediocre, it's strange.  Same with her collabs she gives to other artists.  I swear it's intentional.  She must've hated that Check On It got so big when she clearly didn't care for the track, so she decided she never wanted to go through that again

This post made me secondhand angry nn Teen Mitsouko would defend his faves to the death but pushing-30 Mitsouko just lets the ignorants rot. If you can't come to appreciate genius and top-tier contributions to the culture on your own then I don't want you to, ever. You don't deserve it in your barren, desolate life.

What I'm saying is this song isn't meant to be anything other than an end credits song, and that's why when she did it live she changed it so much in order to give it more of an arch. In that example, she clearly understands how to format the song. In the context of the film the song is soundtracking specific video, and so complaints like "it doesn't go anywhere" or "where is the bridge" or any other such quips that suggest a desire for it to be a more traditional soundtrack ballad seem to disregard its main purpose. Certainly there are many ways for her goals to be achieved. If someone doesn't think it's successful as a standalone song fine, but it IS successful when used to soundtrack the home footage which is it's main purpose and which is why there was so much early positive reviews of the song when people first started seeing the film, calling it a contender for Best Original Song, which it was.

Not the good sis getting her (long overdue) dues THREE years after the fact. I know it'll take sometime but I'm telling y'all that with the inevitable explosion of Afro-beats in the mainstream, The Gift is going to be that album people harken back to.

 

Beyoncé once again was being a trend setter and lets not even get on Black Is King. All underrated projects.

 

It's funny seeing Nigerians rally behind it on Twitter now that the BP ST is looking to get a ton of attention.

 

A couple years ago is was "appropriation" and the "wakandafication" of Africa

The main reason (imo) is since 2012 she has marketed her brand and her music as luxury items. First, by putting out products of incredibly fine quality and cultural significance beyond commercial aims, whether it be artistically (ST) or politically (Lemonade), and then through her moves, allowing the market to come to her. She may lose out on specific mainstream successes, but the way she withheld her music from streaming is no different than a luxury brand only allowing specific retailers access to sell their products. You won't find Cartier at Walmart, for example. It creates the idea of prestige. Still, all you had to do was buy the album on iTunes, it's not as if she made it unattainable and limited BUT this is pop music and so even that makes a different impact than the usual wide releases of a mainstream album.

 

We may not agree with the choices because we as fans want more people outwardly loving her music, listening to it easily, making hits we can take back and brag about etc., but the plus side is that this has fast-tracked her legend-status like no other artist I've seen (certianly not of her generation and as for previous ones, I don't know for sure but don't think many were seen with the same awe at the time of their peak relevance as Beyoncé is now other than maybe Michael Jackson).

 

At some point Beyoncé seemed to ask herself, "do I want to be a pop icon, or do I want to be a legend, and how best can I guarantee that occurs?"

 

Having her music at a bit of an arm's length, choosing to do very little promotion, and confidently putting out albums without even an annoucnemnt or with a video for each song elimiating single potential later, OR giving a lead single away for free or not releasing ANY videos... all these things have made her more of a mysterious, upper echelon type of artist that has treated her work as the art is it, not necessarily the product it may also be.

Let's not forget, Beyoncé has not ONCE relied on a hit to define her relevance since 2010...even has she's had a few collaborative #1s, none of them would be cited in even the Top 10 most important things Beyoncé did in the 2010s...and that says a LOT.

Spilled  all her work is so beautifully crafted Renaissance feels like a work of art with the lack of an accompanying visual so far emphasizing the point of the art. To get y’all to get up dance not sit and watch. Her mind
