Nah, even before then. Janet felt some type of way about her when Bey went solo. When interviewers would mention Beyoncé she would always skimp through Bey to jump over to talk about Alicia Keys with high praise. It was def a difference when Bey was with DC which met with high praise compared to solo Bey. But who cares anyway.

Now that you mention it, Bey said this during the Sasha Fierce era.

I remember Jermaine Dupri being a vocal Bey hater when he was with Janet. I don’t know what her issue could be originally? There was a rumor ** that after the Super Bowl Beyoncé scrapped a duet that she and Janet were working on and instead re-recorded it with DC for Destiny Fulfilled.

We seem to have had quite a few acknowledgements of the visuals over the last 24 hours, including multiple drag queens. Michelle has acknowledged, Andrew acknowledged. Do we reckon something is ramping up?

maybe the halloween theory was correct :skull:

the visuals do have a sinister vibe to them

I had this idea before and I'll say it now

Beyoncé is Madonna's true heiress as a visionary and creative force in pop whereas Britney works more as a heiress to Janet's legacy. No matter what narrative the media tried to push back in the day.

Maybe she tried to push Church Girl because that’s the only visual she had finished (the images from the booklet)? :deadbanana:

NOT @ AHAP creeping up on me like crazy, what the hell!?!?!?! I keep replaying it all of a sudden :deadbanana4:

Will i start liking AUIYM in the future as well? What is this voodoo ****??

Saw someone bring up TG/BIK and how Parkwood were seemingly "satisfied" with its performance etc. I remember being irate at the time at how out of touch the satisfaction was after reading that Billboard article, but calming myself when realizing it was probably just them trying to control the underperformance narrative.

Note how many of those key figures are no longer at Parkwood?! It's not coincidental that she cleaned house after BIK. Steve (who made the comment) isn't there. Y'all will see soon too, a lot of the creatives (both BIK specific and some long timers) aren't there anymore either.

It doesn't help that things are the way they are now (indicating she/her own outlook may be the issue), but I still think it worth waiting out for what's coming to determine if Parkwood (regardless of who is there) will be consistent in non-optimal moves or if we're about to be gagged like never before.

Madonna had proper eras till her early/mid 50s, can Giselle do the same please? :rip:

As for other artists, specifically Taylor, I actually think we have little to worry/care about. If anything, we could benefit from her roll out. Stay with me.

Yes, ole girl wisely does what Bey sets the trends with in a much tidier and universally accessible way (so reaps the benefits), but on a few fronts there just is no competition. Beyonce, as a Black woman making Black music simply will never (ever) appeal to the masses in the way Taylor almost automatically does simply by being born the color she is.

Similarly, Bey just cannot be rivalled creatively or as a performer. Never has a song's lyrics been truer than her self-praise in Alien Superstar. The girls can do surprise drops, visual albums, and multiple acts from now to kingdom come and it just won't compare. Pop culturally speaking.

All that said, what I like about these one-ups when it comes to marketing is that it forces everyone (Bey included) to up their game or at the very least standardizes certain moves.

Seeing how the likes of Taylor and BTS sustained in recent years, a lot of Chart Hive had been preaching about how vital pre-orders, merch, and physical units would be...and we got all of that with Ren.

Bey, with these supposed new Acts, is venturing into Lover / Folklore / Evermore territory with close releases. So will absolutely have to come with a solid marketing plan. Or at least a standard one. Some kind of mix pre-orders, merch, format variations, even the "surprise" deluxe editions that are becoming popular for SPS now.

All the anger around visuals aside, I trust that will happen. Because, speaking purely from a retail perspective, Bey is proving that she's not above the antics of her peers.

How Taylor is slaying 15 years into her career is how Bey should have been slaying idc. Parkwood is satisfied competing with the Billie’s and Olivia of the world.

Beyoncé will never appeal to the masses in the way Taylor has been able to throughout the years. No amount of promo would make her as commercially viable either.

Very that. It just doesnt make sense to me at all, especially given the access Bey has.

I saw this on Twitter last night :dies:

I think the release of Midnights has people even more frustrated. Taylor, per her own words, began to approach her career like Beyoncé does hers but her team is just much better at it.

It's even more ironic because she's the commercial giant. :rip:

I think it’s her team. She cleared house after 2013 creatively and just recently in 2021 brought in a Goldman Sachs exec to manage the business and strategy side. That’s why she’s doing Tiffany and Adidas visuals before anything else.

The executives at parkwood have their own agendas with her brand and it shows. Some have been more commerce oriented while others were more art oriented.

Really interesting observation.

It's funny because it fundamentally disproves the "art not charts" argument (both those who complain about it and those who applaud it).

Ultimately, she'll always need a degree of commercial success to net those types of mega deals. The Tiffany's and Adidas' of the world will only want her to sell their premium product if she's proving her continued ability to sell her proprietary product (music!)

That said, it is wild seeing her be so "brand-first" these days (basically the only times we see her) when she drove so far away from that after 4.

My theory is that the pandemic was a crazy wake-up call for even the biggest artists. Touring was the biggest money-maker for a Bey type star. Sure's she's coined down for life, but to go from having surefire triple millions every 2 years...to...not must have been a "errrrm wtf" moment and a reminder to have diverse revenue streams. Between Tiffany, Adidas, and Peloton, she's probably made more than her usual touring take-home $$$ sum during her "downtime".

My only hope with this appetite for big deals is that there's still some logic to it. Hoping and praying the visuals are still via Netflix. If not, I just hope she doesn't go to the highest bidder "just because" they cut the biggest check (like a local af services such as HBO Max). I don't care for Prime Video, for example, but there's A LOT of cross-platform retail promotion she can run on Amazon alongside it to shift more units if going with them. Hell, even something totally unexpected like pairing up with Meta to do something innovative across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp. Bag the big deals...just make it make sense.

BYE lol

Lemme guess, you're gonna say: anyone discussing the nuances of her moves and career strategy is "delusional" because she's not put the visuals out, is effectively over as a MPG, and there's nothing to see from the era.????

If so, how many times are you going to peddle this same rhetoric? Surely, let's discuss...hell, even speculate/postulate...on other ish.

Not we back on the Taylor subject again. :dies:

Reality is Taylor is white and has no niche audience + shes admires Bey and see how she can shake the music industry. So at times she mimics that formula, her delivery will always come off bigger cause she like to commercially capitalize. But Bey will always be bigger in the cultural impact dept.

Im not gonna discuss anything. I made peace with the fact shes really bad at managing a proper rollout (at least from a fan perspective) and i dont expect anything this year anymore.

This and we literally have the biggest news channel in the country calling her the devil’s wh*re.

Besides, Taylor and Adele have been stomping on Bey and already have 5 times more AOTY Grammys than her, and yet Bey remains more commanding and respected.
The paragraphs here are unnecessary. Let’s go back to dragging Janet

It will always annoy me how troll threads can be made about Bey and they remain open (im talking about that Facebook thread.) Like who uses Facebook trolls as a source anyway?
Meanwhile anything shady against others will get you banned. It was the same thing with that Spotify thread which was filled with lies. Flamebait Beyoncé threads are the bread and butter of this forum, and the mods can say they are fair, but it’s not true.
