Beyoncé

This is part 1 of the Beyoncé discussion.

Beyoncé was not what she was because of Mathew. She was hungrier, sometimes listened to the label and had maybe less yes men around.

If Mathew was the one who created or could create a Beyoncé, then he would have already created another one.

Not even his 2nd daughter who has the same skin color, rocked the same weave (since some haters say that's what made her).

I think some fans get too swept up into Bey's post-4 success + a general dislike for Mathew in their assessment of his impact.

While I don't think he needs to come back (as it's counterproductive to her "in-control" narrative), he was vital to everything up until that point and (regardless of how dirty the end was) her taking the reigns from him at the time she did (rather than going to another mega-manager) was very poetic. Almost like a "job well done, I've got it now".

IMO, Bey was always the talent and a creative force. Will never take that away from her, but to discount the amount of strategy, savvy, and brand management that Mathew executed is unfair and actually factually off. Without it, Bey simply does not exist in the way she does today. Impossible.

The endorsement, the movies, the tidiness of her whole operation (something grossly missing with her these days), the very intentional play for world domination (hello B'Day Spanish versions). That stuff doesn't "just happen". He treated her like a product and (likely fuelled by his love for her as his daughter and a unshakeable belief in her talent) poured everything and then some into making sure all goals were met. Mathew was very mathematical and methodical and it benefitted Bey up until the point where it became necessary for her to make her output less refined, more raw, and more independent (ST onwards). Everything worked out the way it was supposed to. But let's not do tewww much lol

Has anybody else been able to go back into her other albums since Reneigh released? I just can't. :rip:

There's no discounting that he was by far far a better manager (thank God, it was his job) than she is and he probably sacrificed a whole for her. No one discounts what he did for her but that was his job both as a manager and as a father. And being a great manager doesn't mean you made the artist.

Huge artists usually have exceptional managers, because the label invests. Mathew was also certainly not the only one helping, she had a whole label backing her up. The difference after IASF is that she ditched both Mathew and in a capacity her label.

Still, I am sure he did all that for Solange and no matter how people don't like to admit it, did also a bit of that for Kelly and Michelle. I'm also sure he tried his very best for that girl group he formed after she fired him. But none of his acts other than Beyoncé and Destiny's Child were huge successes. The common dominator for success is not Mathew, it is Beyoncé.

She's not as savvy as he was and her eras are not as well oiled (normal she's a creative, her decisions can not be as objective), she fucks up more time than not, frankly few people would have been so commercially viable after the way Bey has handled her last decade. Today she is a 41 year-old who has just released a new album in the streaming era (her true first), that she hasn't acknowledged once since the first day and it's not completely dead. That's not Matthew's doing.

But I don't discount the man and what he's done for her. I think maybe with him, there was someone telling her things the hard way, how they were and taking objective decisions regarding singles, promo etc. I hope she still has that.

I revisited ST and 4 for the first since Rennie last week.

Before that, I couldn't. And just after one listen of both entirely, I had to come back to Rennie.

Question - obviously she would never do it, but would yall prefer if she reinstated Mathew as her manager, if it means he will kick her ass into gear and make her do promo the old fashioned way? Or do you prefer that Bey has more control over her career, even if the result of it is what the Renaissance era has become?

Mathew can't "make" Beyonce do anything...he was always an employee, that's how she freely FIRED him. Beyonce did what he said back then b/c she was his child and was in the building phase of her career. Beyonce in 2022 is grown grown and not taking orders from daddy. Anything that feels too much like pressure & exhaustion from the past and he's getting fired again. The arguing & tension from this type of management that Beyonce CLEARLY doesn't want is not worth any possible new strain in their personal relationship. People hire these sharks as managers when they want certain results...see also Scooter, Benny Medina, etc. Beyonce is not looking for that.

Ya'll act like Parkwood is looking around the room clueless on how to book shows and do promo. We see what ChloexHalle schedule has looked like...they KNOW how to do it. Ya'll think Beyonce is out of touch yet her 70 year old geriatric daddy knows to navigate an industry that has vastly changed since he was in the game. He's produced no stars in this era and quiet as its kept...he has no other stars without Beyonce....so its the chicken or the egg theory imo. Mathew needs to rest and take care of his young kids that he doesn't acknowledge & be an exceptional grandfather.

This must explain the catalogue streams.

I tend to go back alot whenever an artist drops new music.

Her album is holding up so well despite 'flopping' on Spotify. I hope the album will have at least three hit singles and releasing dual single like the IASF era will benefit the album and gives the album even more longevity.

I’m hoping for Spring for act 2 and act 3 around October/November 2023. But we all know her rollout will not make any sense so we just have to wait and see. As long as one of the acts isn’t a collab album with her husband, I will be happy

Her catalog is doing better than every one of her peers sans Shakira and Eminem on Spotify. But yeah it's really weird how she never gets boost. :rip: I assume she's most likely getting equal amount streams as she does on Spotify and Apple Music. They just happen to balance each other out while other girls' strengths are solely Spotify. People are forgetting AM is bigger than Spotify here in the US and while she is global, she also happens to be one of the biggest MPGs here.

I think once the hype for the 3 Acts dies down, it'll just trickle into the rest of her catalog.

Given that its been a min since she toured solo.

• $6-8M revenue per show

• She prob do 50 shows total (July 2023-Feb 2024)

• Since Renaissance been stable and popular, she prob just tour act i then combine act ii and iii to another tour.

originally i thought she pull a TMCSWT with adding act ii songs later but i feel every Renaissance track deserves a performance. :michael:
