Rate Signup Thread: The RE-UP
a "greatest hits of all" rate could be fun, no? a bunch of greatest hits albums pit against each other to see which artist has the most beloved hit songs feels like it could be a really fun bloodbath. i'd be interested in hosting it but i have dyscalculia so i may struggle with finding out the average score and i'm not quite sure how hosting a rate works what do you think?

Is "being old" a valid excuse for Madonna?
cher's abba cover album was made because she was in mamma mia 2 which was a massive movie and pretty much had that promoting it. 8 weeks is not that much longer than 5. it also didnt go number 1 unlike confessions 2 tony bennett did an entire cover album with lady gaga who at the time was still a newish, younger artist. his last solo album before that was released in 2004 and charted at number 65, and his solo album after that was released in 2015 which charted at number 96. his album before cheek to cheek (another collaboration album) went number 5 and charted for 11 weeks. this was an entire cover album full of already iconic jazz hits. elton john's album was also ENTIRELY collaborative, with hold me closer and cold heart both being different parts of his already iconic songs mashed together. it also had hype as the first britney single released post conservatorship. you conveniently left out that unlike all of the albums you've listed (with the exception of cher's 2013 album which was released 13!!! years ago now) madonna released an album entirely of NEW music. it is still charting in the UK which is her biggest market, and it still managed to go number 1 without a major streaming hit. it IS much harder for older artists to chart well nowadays, especially with ORIGINAL music, no matter how you try to spin it

Ariana to take break from public after tour, drops out of 'Sunday in the Park'
so many conflicting feelings about this. i think her taking a step back is for the best but i can't help but feel like she has been bullied into hiding for possibly having an illness. some of the comments ive seen about her have been nightmarish. people acting like her being sick is a moral failure and comparing her body to nasty pictures in the name of "concern" and "activism". mass bullying a random woman you've never met on the internet is not going to cure an illness!
