This is what's kind of gagging me. Troye and his team usually are incredibly tasteful and for just about every project since Bloom have had a fairly precise vision that's trying to push his artistry forward, whereas this is so clearly just spinning the wheels. It's so Focus/Problem coded for an artist of his caliber. It's fascinating.

Agree, the speed of time makes staying power hard to establish. I just find it so interesting how perceived quality has shifted since 2024 where it felt like everyone was trying to do their big one.

Personal take is that I think my faves and I don't have the same taste with regard to their own music and my expectations might be misaligned. Still, I am curious if anyone else feels similarly about anyone they are fans of.

A lot of my favorite pop artists (Ari, Charli, Troye, Taylor) have released polarizing work recently and it's had me questioning if mainstream pop artists are encouraged to not agonize as much over 'quality' consistent with traditional pop formulas. Do you think this is a mix of: A) label wants project X by Y to justify Z budget for tour/promo B) Artists with established enough fanbases with consistent enough spending patterns feel less incentive to push harder or edit themselves down C) The market is changing and people like different things/it can't be 2024 forever D) something else What do you think? Hope this makes sense!

This was not good Would I go up to it in the club? Sure. Was the video funny and well-made? Yes! But something is not giving this era… I feel like we don't understand why Something to Give Each Other worked and this is kind of like an approximation that a wannabe would do and not the actual doer. I have so much respect for him just because he literally gave away millions to pursue his cause because he saw it as a greater good. It's really unfortunate what happened to him but his convictions are incredibly admirable.

Monoculture is gone, so these playlists meant to appeal to it genuinely have no source material to cover. Streaming has made niche artistry way more accessible. People filling TTH or similar variations are sanding themselves down so much to as to be inoffensive because of how rigid everyone's tastes are.

I still have faith in him. We need to send him and Charli on a trip to Miami after this album though.
