Spotify debuts bizarre movements

Featured Replies

It's not as weird if you look at the streams instead of the positions. Only Girl for example, went from 1.5m to 1.1m. I think what's happening is that the streams are being more evenly divided between a higher amount of songs, which means that smaller fluctuations in streams will more dramatically change their positions in the charts.

This has been a thing for years, literally all our faves has something like this happen to them.

For example "Blank Space" vanished from Global Spotify 200 chart like a week or something after "Patient Zero" was released, since they moved "Blank Space" autoplay to help Taylor's most recent single, then the day "Patient Zero" when from 22 to 34... "Blank Space" cameback to the charts just like that. It's just that simple. bird

Spotify algorithm has been a mess for a while. Old songs making huge jumps & falls for no reason

That being said, it's actually getting worse and worse. Back in 2024/2025 autoplay kinda "reset" once a month and you saw huge jumps on the first day of every month. Nowadays it happens like every 3 days and 25% of the chart moves 30 spots and multiple songs move 50+ or even 100+ spots

Spotify is slowly becoming a dead platform for new music, much like YouTube has been for English music for a while now

Anything to say to This?

Let's say it was at #201 spot that was 68 places of movement.

If you request it... I can go, explore the Spotify Global charts and comeback with screenshots from the last 7 days for Bad Bunny songs. heart

I agree it's bizarre how a three-week Hot 100 #1 like Patient Zero is barely in the Top 40 on the Spotify chart three weeks after release.

Quoting old comment of mind bird

7 weeks ago, Rihanna had 7 entries in Billboard Global 200 while only 6 on Weekly Spotify Global 200, meanwhile Bruno Mars had 6 on Billboard while 7 on Spotify, Justin Bieber had 3 on Billboard while 5 on Spotify.

She isn't exclusively doing it only good on Spotify. giraffe

The Weeknd: Billboard>6; Spotify>5

Bad Bunny: Billboard>5; Spotify>5

Dolly Parton: Billboard>5; Spotify>3

Ella Langley: Billboard>5; Spotify>2

Michael Jackson: Billboard>5; Spotify>4

KATSEYE: Billboard>4; Spotify>4

Olivia Rodrigo: Billboard>4; Spotify>4

.

Rihanna with more entries in the Billboard Global 200 than the Spotify Global 200 and there are some pressed souls out there who try to say she only does this well only on Spotify sistrens

What a bizarre choice to debate the value of multi-week #1s when your own fave hasn't managed a multi-week solo top 10 since Obama was in the White House.

Isn't it genuinely fascinating how some lead singles can get the highest priority playlisting available and still evaporate from the Hot 100 in the blink of an eye?

So much fraud

Pretending not to see the unprecedented terrorism UMG has been unleashing on the Spotify algorithm since a certain #2 peaking 2024 release is peak ATRL delusion. deadbanana

Yes especially with Katy Perry amongst others. They can't chart, let alone get a high peak. It's convenient that Taylor is there to save the girlies forum careers !

This reminds me of when flowers came out and everyone else's songs were flying up and down.

So much fraud

This has become such a boring, shallow, and lazy way to approach the discussion of what's actually happening and what is being shown in those screenshots. It's so much more complicated than "FRAUD!!!!!11!!1".

It's actually a very interesting topic to discuss primarily because it isn't really fraudulence since it is completely allowed by Spotify, Billboard, and the rest and interrogating the reasons why it is and why it's not really a good thing for music opens a much bigger conversation about the state of the industry.

But everyone loves to get kiis in about whatever artist they don't like instead of actually sitting to discuss the actual systems that are in place allowing labels to game the numbers as much as they do.
