I think it was interesting when Taylor did it the first couple times, when it was a whole event with fans literally going to her house. Obviously that's an insane security risk that she & other artists will probably never do again, but it's cool to think about.

Nowadays you just see a tweet that's like "Grace McLady held a listening party for her album last week" accompanied by extreme praise & vague sound descriptions that don't end up being true in the slightest. And then everyone moves on

With KP6 everyone was hyped. Even the insiders on here would verbalize the same talking points. The music itself isn't THAT bad. It's just everything surrounding this era that made it a massive mess.

You Little Monsters do exactly the same thing so ask yourselves… the answer is just there

listening parties always have people overreacting to the music and then it ends up underwhelming

Well yes, myself included. She was building a lot of goodwill that turned into even bigger hype... and then we heard the music

Frankly only a part of the gay community knew & cared about the (still evil) Dr. Luke situation, and the dumb Blue Origin spaceflight happened later. People hated Woman's World because of its assumed-AI lyrical content and being at least a decade late with its approach to feminism. The other music was also extremely bland. The only songs that anyone remotely enjoyed were I'm His and Wonder, and not enough for them to be hits.

Sometimes I do speculate if these are like test groups, where they play one version of the album (including unreleased/cut tracks), then another. Does that make sense? Sorry im tired..

i think they're too late for that really, these things are usually release week?

i think they're just done to get free promo out of overenthusiastic stans tbh, it's nice that some people get a sneak preview but i don't think you can actually get the measure of anything by listening to it once in a crowded room

I remember when Sabrina held one for MBF and people on twitter were talking about how different in sound it was from SNS and that it's gonna be the album of the year

The very act of being selected for a listening party is going to lead to selection bias from Stans who overhype the album because of the experience, so yes. I never expect an accurate or unbiased review of the album from a listening party

We need atrlers to be invited by the labels. So many of those random fans can't even differentiate between genres



I dont know if my memory is failing but..........I remember the witness listening party and all the polarizing reviews from it

That was one of those times when stans didn't lie.

That was one of those times when stans didn't lie.

I know different people have different opinions and they may like songs that I'm personally not fond of but the way most of the people attending are the stans that eat up no matter what the artist releases and in return they are setting up expectations for people waiting for the album to drop despite having a bias. The 143 listening party fallout was fascinating to watch as people were furious that they were "lied to" after being promised such a great album.

Honestly 143 was such a fun era for non-Katycats. That Metacritic thread was one of the most fun moments I've ever had on this site. I can't wait for Katy's next album release
