Net Worth Discussion

Featured Replies

Hi friends!

For those users who like money discussion, let's chat net worth! In my 20s I had a **** ton of debt. When I turned 28 I focused on paying off debt, finishing school and killing it with work (during covid)

Best decision of my life! Becoming debt free now my savings and 401K compounding more and more each year. I feel behind with my networth as I just turned 34 now but I'm making steps in right direction. Currently I'm at about 215K net worth.

Is this average or am I in good shape? Where are you with your net worth? I'm eager to buy a home now but California is so god damn expensive

Learn what net worth means, average net worth by age, median net worth by age, and ways to grow your net worth over time.

don't compare yourself to other people

other people have different goals, different backgrounds, different timelines

i'd say as long as you aren't drowning in debt you're doing just fine in 2026...

Girl that doesn't change the fact you're discussing your net worth on here, what are we supposed to do with that information? ๐Ÿ’€

Look at other recent discussions in lounge sis. I'm not in a section posting about pop girls or musics news. Credit card advice, relationship advice, life goals. It's completely normal to talk about things like this in lounge. Why are you bringing off topic discussions in here

I understand you might want to get a better picture of where you are at financially compared to the rest of them your age, but what kind of answers do you expect from atrl users?

Anyway let me try to answer this. I'm 29 and I have around the same, but we always have to take things like our background, cost of living, the trade offs, etc. I personally did not have any generational wealth not my family or anybody helping me ever since college and I had to build my net worth brick by brick, and I'm living in an ultra expensive area of California so there's much less savings than what I would have elsewhere. But other people might have different circumstances. Also I wanna ask you if you're counting all your assets like car, house etc and of course 401k in the net worth? Or just what you have in the bank?

How do you guys manage building your net worth without compromising on your travel goals?

I'm in a well paid job but I'm from New Zealand, so plane tickets anywhere are in the thousands and the exchange rate is **** so I have to budget more than the average American/European does. I still live at home so I'm able to save a large proportion of my income but it's hard to find a balance between living life and travelling versus setting up my financial future

At 29, I'd consider that extremely impressive great job!

Yeah assets in general so accounts, retirement, home equity etc. I feel behind cause I'm not a homeowner, but like someone mentioned earlier, it's best not to compare with others. I grew up I would consider middle class or lower middle class, so I never got any generational wealth or really any additional support when I moved across country at 22. The first 5 years or so out in California was tough and had me in lots of debt. I'm so glad it's all behind me now. I appreciate your response dude!

I've been lucky to enjoy my job and be there for so long. If they offer 401K or something similar take advantage of it. The company i work for does profit sharing and adds like 6K every January to my 401K smitten that's on top of all the matching throughout the year.

I never really had a savings account with funds in it till just the last few years, so I've just been disciplining myself to ensure it is increasing every year. I keep a small savings for travel and unexpected things so that I don't have to dip into reg savings.

Doing the lords work jonny5

I graduated school with almost 300k in student loans deadbanana4 that was several years ago and I've just barely hit a net worth of zero dddd. I'd love to say it was done with sound investments, but I got kinda risky and aggressive fresh out of school and it thankfully has paid off.

I would like to retire early if I can. If you ever need / want more info on prudent investment styles, get your ass over to r/boggleheads and start lurking
