Can Olivia Rodrigo surpass SOUR's popularity?

Featured Replies

Maybe with the next album. This one ain't shaping up to be it

She's so young. Popularity isn't everything either: Guts was much more artistically compelling than Sour.

where did you get this gif?

OT: she's only 23. Give her some slacks and even if she won't be able to replicate the same success like I doubt she would care either. She's in for the arts, she said this plenty of times

She can have GUTS level success for the next 15 years and she'd still be completely fine.

She's a once in a generation pop songwriting child prodigy, shes amazing and will go on to do amazing things regardless of success level. She knows how to write a verbose but melodically tight song, she'll be fine across different genres.

She'll definitely repeak at some point as she grows. It's not going to be in the exact same way it happened with Sour but she'll definitely have more albums with big singles. Hell, there might be a future hit single hidden somewhere in the new record Birds Of A Feather Style. I do hope The Cure does well, it's incredible.

Google'd "funny olivia rodrigo gif" or something like that.

I don't think she cares that much because she would have made sour 2.0 if she did

Anything is possible! Imagine if someone had told you during Taylor's 1989 era, that she'd be even more popular ten years later and that she hadn't reached her peak yet in any form.

Yeah, I think so but it won't be with this album. However I think this album will be her most acclaimed which will garner her the longevity and goodwill required to have a SOUR-esque repeak.

That repeak will probably happen when she does a big reinvention that coincides with a shift in the pop landscape so I'm guessing maybe around the end of this decade/start of the next.

olivia is very young, she can very well reach her full potential in her 30s or her 40s. just look at our current MPGs. Taylor, Beyoncé, Gaga and Ariana are all in their 30s/40s and they're still smashing, Taylor even reached a whole new peak in her early 30s.

plus she makes good music and she has established her fan base. i can see her reaching new highs very soon!

Realistically, no.

Even the smallest single from SOUR is still bigger than every single she has released from her later albums.

She hasn't shown any signs of surpassing SOUR yet.

SOUR is arguably the most popular female album of the decade, I really doubt it. Most of the time when pop girls have massive debuts like that they fail to top it in any capacity. Personally I don't really care as long as she continues to make quality albums like GUTS

Anything is possible. The GP is waiting for her w this release in a way they weren't w Guts. However, the singles haven't smashed like they did w Sour. Unless she has 8 smashes, the re peak wont be w this release.

However, she has been moving smartly and building a fanbase. If she continues, she will have an audience that will stick around long enough for her to smash again.

Most likely she gets two Vampire sized hits from this era and reignites interest in her back catalogue.

she will repeak but probably not on Sour's level, the bar is extremely high. it's a Britney situation.
