literally nothing went wrong lmao but your attempt to make this about how the gays drag katy while dragging a talented pop girlie is pretty pathetic

The music quality. Both Rock Music & SS26 are some of the most boring, uninspired, awful, truly unlistenable tracks from this century And her recent lyrics… it's giving ChatGPT

It has always been clear that Brat was a "fluke" and she would return to her popularity pre-Brat next era. This isnt surprising and neither is a real problem.

rock music was good, but it was cut too short. right when you get inmersed with the song it ends. SS27 is cute but it doesn't really go anywhere. maybe i gotta hear the album fully first before i get it 😩

more like Katy in her flop being compared to Charli xcx in her peak

That you're having to compare Katy Perry to someone whose peak era is... a #41 charting single on the Hot 100 ?? redface

These prolonged death rattles by Katy stans ... why must you include everyone in your misery

Can y'all get over it? Katy is still making music. The pity party over dumb **** she did that y'all feel compelled to defend out of parasociality has nothing to do with you liking middling, BORING music you feel insecure over. Making a thread about a whole 'nother artist to moan and complain - LIKE WE GET IT. I like Wide Awake as much as the next person. GROW UP!

I don't know why you would center her creative decisions in terms of commercial performance because it's clear to anyone with ears that the first two singles are not designed to be hits rip this is the antithesis of Katy, who has no creative vision whatsoever and simply wants to return to success for its own sake

Guess with Billie went #3 on the Global 200 and #12 on the Hot 100 I believe

not designed to be hits, or its straight up awful music

Are you guys legitimately unable to understand these singles have no intention to obtain commercial success? Are you guys really that stupid? skull

.

She was never going to replicate the success of Brat, but this new era feels very rushed and lacking vision, and the songs are just bad. Huge fumble

And I fear her music is only gonna get worse from here cuz she only listens to the critics and it's clear her label has paid them for high scores and yet the GP is saying no with those daily drops

Who said she was a mpg rip

The way yall switched on her rip

katycats not being able to fathom someone being a fan of an artist for the music itself and not for the charts 💀

I think we need to stop conflating having a break through standout era with being a main pop force who's immune to having commerial fluctuations.

Charli, at the end of the day, is a left of center pop star. Brat had its moment but there's a reason Charli has always been more under the radar in terms of commercial success. She's a true artist who makes the music she feels called to make. Could she have capitalized off Brat with a continuation of its sound? Sure. And then everyone would call her a try hard sell out and she'd likely not be able to strike gold twice and she'd be flamed for it.

She's making the music that she feels called to make which is commendable. The listener should be on a journey with an artist and wherever their creative instincts guide them. The moment the listener influences the direction the artist goes in, it's career suicide.

No intention of achieving commercial success and she is doing music videos with at least a little budget and getting playlisting?

I get her marketing works, but she has been on a major label for over ten years. She is a self-proclaimed pop star. This positioning of her as an 'indie darling' is so "I have been listening to Charli XCX for two minutes" if I have ever seen it. She cares about her perception and actively narrates in real time and has been since the very beginning so people can be defensive of her for being vulnerable. You believe she is an indie darling because she is given the bandwidth to experiment because she is a tasteful curator and not someone mindlessly wobbling between trends like a Bebe Rexha or Ava Max (no shade) without having a backup plan in place.

She is not indie. She is making diet American Life to intentionally alienate people so she is left with no expectations of producing anything somewhat culturally saturating and white millennials with music blogs can claim she is ahead of the curve. Or whatever.

Like I really loathe to drag her because I really don't even dislike the new music that much but it's so silly skull I really enjoy getting to like her music without needing to die on the sword for her because y'all have to be pregnant at this point from the amount of bouncing on it.

The music isn't for the charts. It's not bopping like that

Charts show public's interest in music. Plus her label ain't gonna invest in her anymore if they see no return income

She needs to scrap this and release Crash 2.0. That's what everyone wants.

The way a Crash 2.0 would be a super smash after Brat

I actually detest both songs and think they're terrible, but this comparison ignores the elephant in the room regarding their creative intentions. Whether Charli is making music specifically to alienate the new audience she has cultivated; misfiring the era in order to remove some of the pressure and expectation she is now chained to in the shadow of Brat; or if she truly doesn't give a **** and just makes whatever she wants, commercial performance be damned - this is fundamentally different from Katy and so the comparison fails.
