Trade men.

Featured Replies

Dear ATRL dairy,

I just discovered this term. One of my gay friends asked me if I knew it. I said no. He explained too me but I was still lost. So I just assumed he was describing DL men but he said no. So I looked it up and basically means too me those men are "Gay for pay". But left for work so I couldn't clarify with him. Anyways I think he is seeing a man who he is labeling as trade.

Before you ask yes I live in a bubble and I'm 34 years old. So I don't know slang.

Explain too me like I'm five atrl.

I thought trade man was just a word for tradies. Like men work with building, warehouse stuff well works with them wearing safety jackets

It originated in black ballroom culture, it used to mean a DL, usually closeted straight-passing guy who would trade sex for money or gifts, but since its proliferation in use on social media it's bas

I don't know what it means either, gays always make things up

I'm not completely sure either. But it sends me how a lot of gays get offended when someone calls another guy trade and they start giving you a lecture about the meaning of the word. Like is it that serious ma?

At some point you have to laugh. Like straight people calling every gay person a twink.

when a guy is "trade" initially it meant men that trade their sexuality for sex but lately its just meant attractive gay men.

I mean, that's just homophobia and it should be called out. Trade is never used in a derogatory way

Most men are willing to be trade or rough trade because $20 is is $20 and a hole is a hole in the dark.

this absolutely kills me because straight people will start arguing about it too. like why do you think you know better rip

no one in this thread actually correctly knowing what it means skull

Nnn I am not sure what it means either, but it's funny because it's actually a very old term. I was watching that old John Waters movie from the 90s, Pecker, and Martha Plimpton's character called Baltimore "the trade capital of the world." rip

It means trading pokemon like your blastoise for my squirtle

it used to mean straight guy who ****** gays for money. now it just means masculine man

I'm old now. I was lewd back in the past. I don't want to be passed around like a toy anymore. So, bye bye. I'm a Buddhist 🙏🧘

Like Madonna once said,

Mmm, ooh, mmm

No famous faces, far off places

Trinkets I can buy

No handsome stranger, heady danger

Drug that I can try

No Ferris wheel, no heart to steal

No laughter in the dark

No one-night stand, no far-off land

No fire that I can spark

Mmm, mmm

The context I see it used it on social media is just to describe a gay man that is straight-passing or masc.

I thought trade man was just a word for tradies.

Like men work with building, warehouse stuff well works with them wearing safety jackets
