Not Myself Tonight came after Lady Gaga, K*ty P*rry, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Kesha, and Beyoncé had all established themselves as big names and they were releasing far better singles at that time. Plus she lost fans with her big band B2B sound and then the Bionic sound lost her even more fans who wanted more adult contemporary or Celine style songs from ha.

What went wrong @D.M.F ?

Shaded Britney. Nobody ever recovers from that.

If she kept up the momentum and released an album every year/2 years

@D.M.F was too busy shading Britney instead of buying & streaming Xtina's music.

Tbh I feel she managed to have a great career all things considered, as for continued success I guess it was the time between the eras that made people look to other pop girls coming up, also just before bionic era she made that comment about gaga (that may have been or not with ill intent) just around the time gaga became huge and perez hilton that was popular back then really went in on her and the media did as well and damaged her image.

Also her persona back then wasnt the best, she was notorious for having a bad attitute and being rude to people that didnt help either, and bionic was experimental and solid but wasnt as catchy enough to keep the interest of the general people

making edm instead of adult contemporary pop soul 21 style in 2012. She would've smashed with that.

What no one is really going to say:

Bad A&R. She's very talented and has a very wide variety of music that keeps getting thrown away (I don't even want to get into it…)

But since the start of her career, her label and A&R's have been seemingly against her releasing more urban / contemporary / soul music and I think she's bored because of the industry politics of it all.

I think if she had invested in creating a space for herself to release music and more creative work, she'd be in a better space…
