Does RiRi's "We Found Love" makes you sad?

Featured Replies

Okay but am I the only one who wants to log onto ATRL and ask why We Found Love by Rihanna lowkey makes me emotional???

Like yes it's a smash. Yes it's a dance classic. Yes the drop still eats. But when you actually think about the context… it's literally about finding love in a toxic, hopeless situation. The relationship in the video is chaotic, addictive, borderline destructive and the way the production feels like an adrenaline rush?? It's giving trauma-bond but make it EDM.

And don't even get me started on the nostalgia. That song soundtracked a whole era. Hearing it now feels like being transported back to messy relationships, late-night drives, summer with friends -it came out in the summer here in my country- being young and careless about anything and thinking intensity = real love. The euphoria hits, but so does the sadness.

It's not just a club anthem. It's euphoric pain. And maybe that's why it still hits so hard.

What makes this great is it's not written in a way where she's lost and sad… but she's in realization, reflecting, eager for change.

It's very "I'm in this moment and it's not great but I'm hopeful that it will be better"

And the beat is easily digestible. It's an event song.. you're not supposed to think so much… you're not supposed to take it serious. You're just supposed to live in the moment.

It's euphoria in a song basically. It has a nostalgic quality to it that elicits a warm emotion but is also upbeat enough to make you instantly in a good mood and feel hopeful

Not me, it makes me wanna wash dishes or sumthing. A lil energy push, i mean.

No. I feel like it's giving faith in love - "we found love in a hopeless place"

A song like Believe by Cher.

The beat in the drop is so minimalist it was shocking when it came out, it's just two notes

Lowkey actually, I think that what has always captivated me about this song. Despite its "simple" lyrics, the song is very effective in conveying lots of emotions regarding a tumultous relationship.

Furthermore, the "we found love in a hopeless place" line means that love wasn't going to ever last, and you could just know from the very beginning. It is a very unfortunate.

I wouldn't say it makes me sad but it really does have a nostalgic feel to it, and I felt that even when the song was recently released. All these years later, that nostalgic feel to it is just greater I suppose

Not sad but definitely nostalgic for a simpler, funner time. Things felt so optimistic and bright back then cries

Yes, it does make me a bit sad, but that's because I relate it to my first love, which was a horrible and toxic relationship, but still had moments of love. The music video hits too.

It does make me feel sad, yes.

It reminds me of my first relationship.
It reminds me of turbulent years after high school and during early college, right when I was about to come out.
I remember watching the video on repeat with one friend I don't speak to anymore.
I remember dancing in clubs to it with another friend I had to cut off years later.
It makes me sad thinking about Rihanna's indifference to music now.
It feels like nostalgia, and reminds me now of fleeting connections, and growing up.

I have a lot of history with this song...

it sounds like a happy song with such sad lyrics

Shine a light through an open door, love and life I will divideeeeeeee is such an exquisite line

Yeah, it is a sad song. The lyrics detailed a doomed love in world that pretty hopeless. Very UK

I guess it's open to interpretation cause I still hear it as a hopeful song. The title is literally We Found Love. Like love is the light in that "hopeless place". I guess the MV makes it feel like the opposite for people but wasn't it inspired by you know who?
