Regarding the alert about doxxing…

Featured Replies

Was this alert in response to an incident that happened to one of the members here? I'm curious because yesterday, I shared my Letterboxd account in the Horror Movies thread. Shortly after, I got an email that someone is trying to reset my Instagram password but thank god I have multi-factor authentication enabled. And the only thing I could think of is that my Instagram profile is linked in my Letterboxd account. Has something like this happened to yall?

the doxxing thing is about being able to see which tiktok or instagram profile shares a link. I think what you experienced is unrelated since this doesn't apply to letterboxd

Instagram and TikTok both have it so when you share a link, it attaches your username to it. When you open a link, it will say "username shared this with you" and offers you to follow them.

idk if there was an event that caused it but I've seen several people do what the alert is cautioning against, so it's much needed rip

I don't believe anyone here tried to hack your instagram after you shared your letterboxd profile, the atrl warning is more about privacy since not all members feel comfortable with revealing their social media profiles/identities through an instagram/tiktok link.

When sharing your LB you do it by yourself and it has your username and if you got other social media links in the bio yes someone could check and the instagram and tiktok thing is when you sharing something from ig or tiktok it shows your account and lot of atrl members are not aware of that.

I think spotify has that issue too so u should erase anything after the question mark (?)

I mean people try to start hate Champaigns over peoples social media and baselessly accuse the of being pedophiles here.

I've seen several users share IG & Tiktok Links here on ATRL, leading that link to reveal their SocMed Accounts

One of my favorite ATRLer shared an IG link yesterday.. and as usual, i always close the page where the link took me eventually

I dont want none of your personal businesses even tho you do it accidentally

Ummm idk but people can't really reset your insta password they need access to your email.

That tiktok setting in the announcement doesn't even work. I've had that setting disabled for ages and it still suggests my profile to people. I only share tiktok links from a browser where I'm not logged in now.

I woke up to one of these too and I haven't shared a post from instagram anywhere in ages, so it's probably unrelated.

I've had multiple of those instagram password reset requests over the last few days too, glad it's not just me

I've got them too yesterday and today, there's been a massive data leak apparently

There's options in both apps to turn this "feature" off but it's kind of hidden. Here's how with insta:

Instagram now tells recipients who shared a Reel link with them, but there's a way to keep your sharing private with a quick fix.

Did you even read that article before coming here to post it? It literally says a function to turn it off does not exist yet.

No, there wasn’t a big incident or anything of the sort. I just see many ATRLers post links that also share their profile, and I always take it upon myself to hide them because I want to protect their privacy. I made the announcement because I want more users to be aware of the issues that come with sharing IG/TikTok links. Sorry about your IG account, I hope it had nothing to do with sharing your letterboxd

I'm so sorry ripi thought it did. I think I confused it with the option to turn it off on TikTok. It is so lame there's no way to turn it off

@genetic fail wait also I just watched a TikTok regarding a phishing instagram email going around rip before you reset your password or anything, go into password and security, and scroll down to emails from Instagram to see if that email was legit

I think it is safe to say I will not be posting Instagram or TikTok posts rip

I've also had IG emails (and even texts) about resetting my PW. I still reset it (without clicking any links ofc) in the event someone tried (or is trying) to hack into my account. I think I've had those messages at least three times. But it hasnt happened in about a month.

I don't really care because my ig is private. So I just don't accept anyone I don't know. Some of y'all are creepy

Atrl and Instagram are 2 different situations. Instagram had a massive leak, atrl did not. They are not connected at all.
