Can we have a respectful discussion about the lack of clarity regarding the Rate Signup process?

A pinned OP with clearly stated rules as there are for sections of the forum would avoid offending @Ace Reject

Actually appalled by how rude and passive aggressive @Ace Reject has been over the past few days since I've suggested starting a rate.

Please review the thread over the past few days.

No one is trying to steal Rate Threads from @Ace Reject who seems personally aggrieved that anyone dare copy the format they created…even though they created a thread for others to sign up to copy the format.

Nowhere in the OP does it explain the rules but Ace has gone on a rampage about me starting a rate that I've been discussing in the thread all weekend.

Ace just threw shade. Didn't inform me of the rules or tell me where to find them.

Not once until now did Ace ask me to discuss the rate ideas in DM.

Is it wrong to assume it's acceptable to discuss rate ideas in the Rate Signup thread?

Oh yeah I fully support you. Rates are a mess and kinda overtaken by the same 3-4 users. Can we make our own separate rates and let them me be in their world jonny5

Better yet, ban @D.M.F

I haven't gotten banned once after Rian brought me back from being permanently banned unfairly because of Ace R or S. Clearly I behave on here; I'm older and wiser now; 26 baby!

There are no rules for Flamebait in base but there are against low effort threads so why is DMF allow to make them?

I have nothing against you, I just wanted to make a rate some time ago (I think like 6 months ago) but I realized I literally can't because my posts has been ignored by a mod meanwhile y'all making new rate every other week and they just appear there (I assume from private DMs with that mod). I wanted to follow the rules and I read somewhere that there can't be too many rates at once? I can't even remember where I got that from cause there doesn't seem to be clear rules for rates anywhere

Let's do something about Ms @erica leigh going through my profile and downvoting all my posts everyday because I made a thread about Britney a month ago

Is this not a warnable offence?

Wouldn't be surprised if they are a dupe either considering the no posts and hidden activity giraffe

I don't disagree that there should maybe be a post/pinned post about the process of signing up to host a rate and the restrictions and rules. We also used to have a queue in the thread many years ago that could be worth bringing back because people forget sometimes about things they've suggested/timelines. I also think that'd be good because people who haven't hosted that many, if any, rates are probably apprehensive to follow up with Ace/supa to check if they're still fine to host something. They can obviously correct me if this isn't the case but I believe they don't mind being DMed with rate ideas/suggestions.

I think signups are overall a net positive though. We see how repetitive it gets when so many of the same album comparison threads get made day in, day out, and a free-for-all with rates with the same philosophy would probably only exacerbate this. It also means there's not too many at once (the limit used to be 10 iirc, not sure if this is the same now?), and it also just gives the chance for different things to be going on at once, e.g. not just a whole bunch of discography rates. Also means people who might have proven themselves to be unreliable/not good hosts to not just keep repeating the cycle and wasting people's time. michael

Can someone PLEASE ELI5 how to post an image on new ATRL rip every time I try it just shows the link but not the image.

It has to be the direct link. Like ending with an image format. GIF, PNG, jpg, etc... If it's from one of those gif sites, I always have to open the image in a new tab and copy the link from the address bar

coughs in Slayyyyyyyyyter discography MEGArate

Ya'll act like DMF is getting consistent 10+ page threads. The underperformance is noticeable. Keeps getting worse better greatest "hits" teas.

Let them have fun. I just want more creativity and innovation. I'm starting to wonder if they are going back in the archives and pulling old threads from the last decade and rehashing them as a new era. The P!nk impact is too much.

Is this not a warnable offence?

It is, and they have been warned as such.

My two cents on the rate debate is that I do agree that there should be a "lightening" in the signup process. I firmly believe anyone should be able to host the kind of rate they would love to. It is the peak forum experience after all, cause you interact with users you'd never talked with in the most delightful situation. This is why I encourage anyone to try it, cause I wouldn't have met so many beautiful, incredible people without joining/hosting them.

However, I do believe communication with the whole ATRL community is key: what's great in our mind isn't always so on paper. The rate thread should be used to test if our rate ideas/suggestions are indeed something other ATRLers would love to do and to confront them with theirs. Here's where mods should play a key role: to mediate the whole debate, to encourage more and more rate ideas/suggestions without them being redundant or unfeasible.

Personally speaking, Ace and Supa have always been the kindest and open to engage with; but then again, my experience isn't anyone's experience, and it's extremely important to give anyone the same room to be listened to. I hope we can find the best solution to the whole thing, cause I'd love to see anyone give their shot to this format

That thread isnt in base, it's in celebria. The thread is very clearly against the site rules.

not the thread being rebranded into a news thread by title and remaining in celebria

the personal attacks on mods are wild but ngl kinda wild we just moved past this lol, i wish that thread was just relocated or locked tbh - mods can make mistakes but doubling down on them is... contrary to that

It's a nice thought but most people who would participate in rates don't hang around the sign up thread (for the very same reasons that have been pointed out). I'd even argue it's been that very action that has dissuaded so many from persuing rates, because they can see how others have been ignored and dismissed or made to feel stupid for their ideas. A rate thread having limited engagement when it goes up shouldn't be an automatic signal to close - the host could organize participants elsewhere. Also would be good to mention all these niche rates that have hundreds of replies in the first 24 hours are the same small group of users going back and forth, not as large a group as it appears. It shouldn't be a convoluted process: someone asks to do a rate, if it's not unreasonable and the host believes they can do it, approve, add to a queue if need be and move along. If it flops, it flops. Who cares? Do we not realize how many pointless flop threads are made day to day? Enough of the hand wringing and "but...you should change this! You could do that instead!," maybe they don't want to! The whole process has been made an unfeasible headache which is why many of us opt to just ask an admin.

Can the mod who closed the Watch It burn charts thread reopen it and let it reach page 70. This is triggering my ocd so bad, like why 69, that is such an ugly number, it was the 67 before 67 existed. I dont care if y'all wanf me to send you bribe or nudes i dont care, i just need it to reach an EVEN number please. Im not even joking i cant breathe
