The actual story of the fashion brand would have require a tv show of multiple episodes in order to be properly told and it would have been another project, the story of Patrizia Reggiani which this movie was supposed to be about should have focused more on the murder, it's a true crime story where the fashion world is in the background, the fact that she went away with murder for years before they caught her, the investigations and the various dynamics around it should have been the main focus of the movie and not the last 20 minutes.

That being said, I still think it's an overall good drama with Gaga's best performance.

Todd's main goal of JFAD was to take back the narrative. The film reviews the events of the first movie and goes out its way to depict Joker as a depressing mentally ill loser that is taken advantage of, not the audacious rebel audiences created

The reception to JFAD is very meta. The audience wanted him to kill and be a bad guy they could cheer on, but instead Todd unmasked their hero as a sad man that likes to sing and audiences hated him for it

In a lot of ways JFAD depicts what is wrong with the US. No one wants a serious educated leader, they want a loud crazy clown that will be entertaining, with no concern of the consequences

Correct analysis but this doesn't justify the movie being lackuster narrative wise with essentially a boring plot with majority of the movie set in a corthouse with a supposed female co lead (folie a deux) played by one of the biggest popstar in the world ending up being underused on it and serving as silent cameo between the court audience, not to mention the pointless musical parts that don't add anything concrete to the plot but feels forcely attached for the sake of trying to make the movie artsy.

Todd could have still delivered this message brilliantly with a different, captivating and more compelling plot which the critics and part of the audience would have still appreciate given that the incels discourse was indeed the main criticism of the first movie and not everybody was supporting it.

I have Shallow at 12x plat, BR at 14x, JD at 13x, ARUTW is probably closer to (or at) 6x plat than TEOG (MR will get there soon too), but basically we're in the same ballpark. The fact that Gaga has Diamond (or Diamond-eligible) songs in 3 different decades is insane. And it'll be awesome when Poker Face goes double Diamond in a few years
