I think it's going to be a hit regardless of what time of year it comes out, so she doesn't really need to worry about "competing" with Christmas songs.

wait! by this time in 2022, "lavender haze" was already a single  i guess they're planning a huge rollout for this one and they need xmas to die down and radio to pick up so that they can release the video and whatever else they got planned.

she's Taylor Swift. a song isn't going to die just because she sprinkles christmas into it  all her pop singles have extreme longevity, even the 2 folkmore ones did. i'd prefer this to be a quick hit and allow room for a third single. if all 3 songs stick around for ages then the industry and GP will be over it and switch on her again. and that actually can have a real impact when it's an internal industry thing.

Christmas is on a Thursday this year, which is great because holiday songs will be contained in the Dec 19-Dec 25 tracking period. This means that if she ships CDs or releases remixes on Dec 26, Opalite will have a very good chance at #1 after all the holiday songs freefall.

 

Her team has gotten a lot better at securing #1s in recent years (willow, ATW10, Anti-Hero, Cruel Summer). I am hopeful they have a plan for this future smash. TLOAS would be her first album since 1989 to have multiple chart-topping singles!

We suffered for MONTHS before they moved though, it was close to going #1 way before it actually did

I remember that. There were a number of threats that popped up that year (remember that random MAGA song that debuted at #1?).

 

Taylor's team really played the long game when CS finally hit #1 in October. I think it taught them that they could have both longevity and a #1 peak for post-album singles if they play their cards correctly (and the song is actually good). I'm hoping they can recreate that same success for Opalite.

Yeah, but when they did end up moving it was peaking on overall radio, it coincided with Eras Tour movie week, also charts were weak by the end of 2023 so it all worked out in the end 

Associating the song with Christmas is asking for it to freefall in January  can yall please stop wishing for that
