Was 2007 really that bad for Britney?

Featured Replies

I mean I get that she was in the public eye a LOT during that year but technically speaking, she didnt get into the cship until 2008 and 2008 is also when she was put on 5150 psychiatric hold. She was literally chilling in 2007. Yeah she shaved her head but that doesnt mean it was a rough year for her :deadbanana2:

It literally ruined her life until 2023…

Also even though her music was popping, people gawked at the Gimme More video as if she was a trainwreck or a car crash. The only people gagging were the fems and gays like you, me, and Chris Crocker.

she was having a public nervous breakdown, went into rehab and faced frequent humiliation in the press and at home. people on ATRL will say anything. "britney was doing just fine in 2007". no she wasn't, that's not true

I mean she definitely used her blog as a way to communicate but in a way I think she probably gave up on trying to sway public opinion and focused on her kids, her custody of them and trying to fight for her freedom. Nobody really knew or considered what she was going through bts with her family and the courts

2008 happened cause all the shitstorm in 2006-2007 made her break.

She wasn't fine, paparazzi being all over her magnifying everything and then have all her inner circle come at her like vultures happened all at once.

And the people closest to her - K-Fed, Lou Taylor, Sam Lutfi, Larry Rudolph plotted against her and probably fed the media so much dirt. ***** to all of them!

It was horrible. This was pre-social media as we know it now, when TMZ and tabloid press had all the power and control to create a narrative and destroy public figures.

you had to be there - people were painfully cruel, paparazzi were basically stalking her to provoke her.

She had several mental breakdowns.

Girl I don't know if you remember that time but she was literally a laughing stock. Everyone was talking about how crazy she was and making fun of her antics.

There's that image of Britney just sitting on the curb crying while a bunch of paparazzi continued to snap pictures that's burned into my mind. I don't know how you couldn't feel something for her in those times.

Media was mean & trash her so bad back in 2007, they even attack her by her body, mom skills eveything..... this in 2025 will be so unnaceptable. she was young, she did not deserve all that back 2007 & of couse the  conservatorship was soooo unnesesary.

It was cruel. Now this days even media are afraid to talk bad about things, I remember how media trash her bad her 2007 VMAs perfomance.... calling her fat etc. I remember when Selena Gomez perfomed Lose You To Love Me at the AMAS & all media was afraid to even talk about the perfomance & lets be honest it was bad. but since she is a huge star  with a huge fan base media decide to not even talk about it, back in the 2000s it was all the opposite.

she lost or was in the process of losing custody that year wasn't she? that alone is one of the most devastating things that could happen to you as a parent

Yes, she mentioned that specific time in her book. A really sad read.

Spoiler

In February 2007, after not getting to see the boys for weeks and weeks, completely beside myself with grief, I went to plead to see them. Kevin wouldn't let me in. I begged him. Jayden James was five months old and Sean Preston was seventeen months old. I imagined their not knowing where their mother was, wondering why she didn't want to be with them. I wanted to get a battering ram to get to them. I didn't know what to do.

The paparazzi watched it all happen. I can't describe the humiliation I felt. I was cornered. I was out being chased, like always, by these men waiting for me to do something they could photograph. And so that night I gave them some material. I went into a hair salon, and I took the clippers, and I shaved off all my hair.

Everyone thought it was hilarious. Look how crazy she is! Even my parents acted embarrassed by me. But nobody seemed to understand that I was simply out of my mind with grief. My children had been taken away from me.

She had become the media's punching bag, solely for abandoning her "America's sweetheart" image and having a sacrostanct mental breakdown after having been exploited for years. It was bad.

Of course it was, she was dragged back and forth by media while she was being harrassed by paparazzis, it was awful.

Girl, she never be the same since THAT year... Do you think it's bad or not. :rip:

Mind you, it sold drastically more than any Xtina project released since, and Gimme More has higher US sales than any Xtina single :bird:

I feel like a lot of people have a hard time separating their feelings on a popstar and their fans because it's just a total lack of empathy. It's one thing if they were teenagers, but these people haven't grown in my years on this forum. Like just think about the picture of a woman defeated because she lost her kids crying while the people taking pictures of her don't think for a second "We're kicking someone when they are very down" and not being able to feel sympathy for her because a Britney stan called your fave a flop once
