Do you remember P!nk?

Featured Replies

I fear Pinkpantheress single handedly erased her from people's memories by releasing Illegal. now everyone only thinks of her when they think of a singer named Pink.

I hate how her downfall has happened. her album run from 2000-2012 is really something to behold, that's 6 great albums in a row with the latter 3 transcending to excellence. for real, I'm Not Dead, Funhouse, and The Truth About Love is a lowkey insane 3 album run… all 3 being pop rock bibles :jonnyknife: and all the new songs that were put onto her Greatest Hits compilation continued that pop rock perfection :clap3: but somewhere around Beautiful Trauma she really lost me idk. the first three tracks and Secrets are all very good but the rest of the album really doesn't feel like the P!nk I had fallen in love with. then she became really vehemently pro-circumcision which made me side-eye her like crazy (before anyone comes at me, I'm an intactivist, yes, but I also grew up WAY more observantly Jewish than her ass did lol), and then she came out as a zionist, and that sealed the deal. she's a shell of her former self and it's really  depressing to see. she went from someone who'd champion human rights very consistently to a vanilla, genocide-supporting soccer mom. it's so bizarre to me honestly, like what triggered this huge 180° in character? or was it just a skewed public perception and she's always been like this deep down inside? either way, a tragic outcome. I can't lie, I still bop to songs from those three albums, but definitely separating the artist from the art sort of moment, which I wish I didn't have to do. I just don't understand how someone who seemed to be somewhat revolutionary for pop standards has stooped so low, but maybe someday she'll change her views :ryan2:

I love P!nk's pop rock era, but let's be honest, she's never been as subversive as some people would like her to be. I don't think she really changed that much, she used that rebelious image when it was marketable for her and stopped using it when it wasn't :michael:

How old are you?

When P!nk came up, all the media cared about were the bimbos, girlie-girls, blonde hot sexy & dumb persona. Look at how Britney, Christina, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton etc were marketed.

Do you really think that being like P!nk at that time wasn't submersive? She came up with songs like Family Portrait, Lonely Girl, My Vietnam in a time that the deepest lyrics the pop scene was putting out was "bye bye bye".

There are plenty of articles from that time claiming how P!nk changed the game in pop music and there are plenty more articles crediting her for paving the way to the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kesha, and other 2005-08 girls' freedom to be "freak-ish".

So yeah, pretty subversive. But it is easier to look at the mother-of-2-persona she has now and say she's safe and was never a big deal.

except for a handful of songs, i refuse to acknowledge that she released any additional albums after The Truth About Love.

She's always been supremely talented and the best live performer of the 2010s, but her recent output and political stances have been disappointing, and I say that as a stan

I really like her music but she needs to evolve with the next record. I feel the same about kelly
she's playing too safe and people realized she's in a comfort zone and are dipping out
Just do something different lady.

There's one thing u cant erase from her.
she's the best female pop performer all time in my opinion
Im sorry but if youre a circus performer-acrobat youre a level above everyone*
she should do the superbowl. Her body will lose power with age and her time to shine there will be gone*

I used to like her a lot, loved all of her albums until The Truth About Love. Then, she became such a soccer mom :sabrina: I liked her because she was a rebel, now she's so boring and her music too...

Now about her  problematic stances-antics (including her bullying to some of her peers in the past)
all the pop girls are goddeses from heaven reincarnated
They all have permanent inmunity card :gaycat4: from all curses, backlash, mistakes and antifans hate
yes this is a very exclusive card. Only for popgirlies as the top celebs in the world. Very VIP. Very Upper-echelon
so pink is free of jail as a main pop girl  we love her again and we are rooting for her next record:jonnykin:

see I understand this but at the same time I don't. I think the reason people group her and P!nk together in this is because they often appealed to similar niches in pop. but nah. Kelly proved her ambition hasn't left, at least musically, with how different Piece by Piece, Meaning of Life, and Chemistry all are from each other :giraffe: Chemistry was a bit of a disappointment at first, since I was expecting rawness on the level of My December… but it grew and I realized that she delivered something very strong conceptually. like Down to You, Red Flag Collector, and That's Right all on the same album? cmon! unreal. Meaning of Life is also super strong conceptually. P!nk hasn't delivered a strong concept since 2012 imo

Oh wait i forgot about meaning of life. That was great experimentation with urban music

I was watching the TTAL Tour a couple nights ago.

But everything went south with her

I acknowledge that, but that's also part of the marketing. She was marketed as an anti-Britney much in the vein Avril Lavigne was around the same time. With the popularity of teen pop it was just a matter of time labels would look for the answer to it and P!nk came from that batch.

And again, I acknowledge P!nk's importance in the pop scene, my point was that a lot of the subversion we associate with her was marketing, not something she simply had in her, she wouldn't keep that persona forever.

I do love Beautiful Trauma but Hurts 2B Human and Trustfall, except for a couple brilliant songs, are disappointing.

At least she has the legacy. She was cool.

Her soccer mom transition gave her global longevity then all her peers but I do wish she could release an amazing album like try this, I'm not dead and funhouse again. Though motherhood changed her and I can't see her releasing anything but soccer mom music

P!nk was bigger in the early 2010s but Beyoncé and Shakira had more global longevity than P!nk lasting through the 2020s and didn't have to go the soccer mom route.

She should've changed things up after The Truth About Love.

The global longevity ran out. She's pulling less than 1M more daily streams on Spotify than Christina Aguilera and less than half the streams of Britney Spears.

The thing is, her image was even more fake. The whole "I'm different and not like other girls" worked for a bit for girls like P!nk and Amy Lee, but it went stale when people realized how sexist it was. P!nk was able to pivot and save her career by talking about underdogs and how everyone is perfect, but there's a reason her early attitude is swept under the rug. It was dated and messy.

Pink is still a big touring force, which is where the money is anyways.

didn't she have a globally sold out stadium tour last year?

Yeah, which is the second biggest female tour ever. :fan:

Britney only started doing better than Pink on Spotify last year lol. Pink was always above and I believe she still has more total streams. Furthermore, Pink has been doing better than Britney every era since 2002 both in the US and especially globally.

BT was bigger than Lemonade in every country outside the US and WAU is also bigger than any Beyoncé song since. Shakira only had collab hit singles. Her last succesful album was in 2010 and her solo songs after waka waka never stuck. She was also bigger than Beyonce and Shakira with album sales in the mid-late 2000s especially WW, US they were similar with Beyonce. Shakira was a singles artists outside a few euro and Latin America to begin with.

I'm Not Dead and Funhouse are two amazing albums. Who Knew will always be THAT song.

Lemonade outsold BT in the U.S, Brazil, Japan, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden and probably a few other countries.

Overall it sold more and did more for Beyoncé's career and legacy than BT did for P!nk's. WAU did well but it was nearly a decade ago.

Beyonce and Shakira have been much bigger and more relevant in the 2020s, which is the point.

She got left behind because appealing to soccer moms doesn't work anymore in the streaming era.

That's not true :skull: Britney has been outstreaming P!nk since like 2021-22, which is crazy considering P!nk released an album in 2023 (and it even got a re-release). I would hope she has more total streams considering she's released three albums since Britney's last, and even then, the gap is just 800M and getting smaller every day.

Daily streams:

Britney — 8.1M

P!nk — 4.4M

That's also inaccurate considering Try This and In the Zone both came out the same year. TRUSTFALL also did worse than Glory in the US. P!nk only outdid her in the 2010s.
