Doja Cat - 'Vie'

Agreed. The music is her at her best. This fixation on charts is so odd and parasocial. The only person who has any need to worry about that is Doja and anyone on her payroll. The music is amazing and a real artist won't stop making good music bcuz they're not commercially smashing, in fact this usually leads to much better music that doesn't pander to trends and generic expectation.

I've been saying. This will be a blessing in disguise in the future and rid her of any major commercial expectation, from both labels and the GP. Allowing her to truly focus on craft, creativity and artistry. Doja is insanely talented on all fronts, and that will speak for itself. We have yet to see her magnum opus and we're getting there.

This era was cursed from the get go, and RCA really fumbled it. Whilst I don't think theres any smashes on the album, she could've had much better numbers if there was a solid campaign pre album release. I hope she leaves RCA and joins a label who truly can support her in moving into an album artist.

Unfortunately artists are having shorter spans of time on top commercially. It's happened before Doja, and it'll happen after Doja (Sabrina your time will come).

Like others have said, i've come to peace with the numbers, and i'm enjoying the album more than ever. The tour will be absolutely fine also, and hopefully give the album more stable longevity.

it's holding better than (or at least on par with) Scarlet in some markets even tho PTTR was a huge hit in Oceania :jamming:

a win is a win either way!

What's going on with the era? Do we even know what the next single is after JT? :biblio:

they trialled stranger + gorgeous, and then pulled them straight out of radio… so theres no second single at the moment

my bets are they're not going to push anything else which is honestly for the best for her future eras. if jealous type failed to make a dent, nothing else from the album will in my opinion

Why did not book Doja at the Victoria Secrest show?? Gorgeous was the perfect song.

Gorgeous should of been pushed harder.

Only way out is sza song or "acts of service"

I think this is a perfectly fine album with some fun moments but overall it seems like a step down in what Doja usually gives us, it was definitely missing the secret sauce - I wonder if Jack Antonoff polished over her edges too much with this one.

I'm confused on why they would do that it takes time for singles to grow on radio.

Doja should pull a Tate & promote both songs every where! It can gain traction.

Really Ahh men & Strangers should be push.

I don't wanna dance around it
Talking 'bout our love is easy
Loving you was never secret
(And I know you know they know)
Kiss you on the neck on purpose
So they know my favorite lip-stain
Can we look behind the curtains?
('Cause I know you know they know it)

Honestly, this would have been the perfect spring album had it dropped in May with no delays. Like ugh imagine gorgeous, silly fun and cards throughout the summer

Make It Up hitting hard for me today!

They should have tried this at Rhythmic

Ahh Men has the same issue Cards has.  There's no real hook (melodic).  So it's a bit awkward for a radio single.  So Idk.

What I do know is that I'm lowkey getting tired of discussing singles and what they should do next.

I became a stan to enjoy the music and visuals, not to basically discuss the same **** I do at my full time job, lol.

So, it's above me now..imma let the Pop gods determine her fate.   But it didn't have to be this way at all (in terms of the rollout + sales), which is disappointing.  The quality is not so bad that it's impossible to save it.  But they are doing nothing.

Ugh can you help us tell her team to send "Make It Up" to Rhythmic radio asap. Rhythmic is her core audience, and the pop tracks on Vie won't work w that radio format. "Make It Up" is the classic Doja ballad that fans will enjoy. It might not save the era, but it at least reassures Doja's casual fans that she still makes the same music that they enjoy.

Yup she needs to get out of RCA before they tank her completely. There's literally no reason why an album of this quality with a popstar of her stature is performing this poorly while being signed to a major label lol. PR disasters from the last era aside, she can still move tour tickets and make hits so I'm confused why the push just fizzled as soon as JT underperformed. :coffee2:

Her core fanbase is Rhythmic who listen to a mix of both pop and urban (like me hehe)

Female songs to reach #1 on Rhythmic Radio this year

SZA, 30 for 30

Doechii, Denial is a River

Doechii, Anxiety

Mariah the Scientist, Burning Blue

Moliy, Shake it To The Max

Cardi B, Outside

Kehlani, Folded

From the album Vie, the pop songs won't work w Rhythmic radio, so she should pick a R&B song to fit current listening trend... Make It Up (which I prefer to Acts of Service) would be my pick for her next single. We might see a R&B female revival in a few years (SZA, Burning Blue, Folded, Muni Long), Doja focusing on R&B would be a great move, she already had plenty of R&B classics (Streets, You Right, Agora Hills)

Yeah, idk why they would release an album after just one song. If they were going to do that, it should have at least been AHH Men!

She needs to do a mv for acts of service as a continue from stranger where she kidnap by the guy that shot her in stranger and end the era with hopes she'll get acclaim for the mv  a great visual and a storyline and move on to the next era after the tour
