Perhaps it's just me, but I'm finding her writing has become significantly less relatable. Pure Heroine and Melodrama were incredibly relatable, and they were sonically brilliant too. With her last two albums, that feeling of connection through her writing just isn't there anymore.

 

Does anyone else feel the same?

yes because she now makes music for sex obsessed and out of touch people who think micro-dosing on MDMA puts them on a higher consciousness

yeah maybe out of the new songs nothing really connected with me but maybe it's because I lead a boring life

I can see Broken Glass resonating a lot with people who have ED issues though

Teenagers are more archetypical hence teenage-specific art will be more relatable. Lorde is still stuck in the 'child prodigy' box which bestowed this sage-like role onto her of having to narrate each 4-year-long interval of our lives. But the truth is adults are distinct and way more varied than teenagers are so of course her art will now be universally less relatable

i feel like if you listen to virgin with an open mind you may definitely relate to one of the topics that get discussed on the album.

 

she talks about her relationship with her mother, doing a pregnancy test after having unprotected sex, gender identity, reflecting on your younger self, struggling with an eating disorder, having a one night stand like thats just the tip of the iceberg. thinking about this, this might actually be her most relatable album as she is fully transparent about everything she went through the past few years. Whether you can personally relate to it is a different discussion tho. I can imagine many people (primarily women) relating to this album in various ways.

Ummm honestly she was never all that relatable to me (similarly to Lana Del Rey) but I didn't like her or her music for that reason — I liked her for being weird and off kilter, especially during her debut but the music itself was still in the realm of mainstream pop; albeit a quirkier alternative version of it.

 

I don't think she's made appealing music since Melodrama. With that being said, her debut was still leagues better than anything else she's released, and I stand on that!

And what about Lorde not being relatable? A work being relatable or not most of the time doesn't affect the quality of it. I don't relate to what Gaga writes 90% of the time but I don't complain about not being able to morta my amor

 

 

 

There's so much I relate to on the new album so not really. 

 

Maybe it's because the last two albums are lyrically more about her journey of self discovery. You're not going to relate to every specific lyric like you could on Pure Heroine (growing up) and Melodrama (relationships and break ups) because these are things every body goes through. 

 

But there are certainly more themes than taking MDMA on the album  If someone thinks that, I don't think they necessarily understood the album. 

No Virgin album is not relatable at all and that's probably why I don't like the music and her persona this era

You just don't know what it's like taking a pregnancy test and waiting to see if your life is forever changed or your period was just late.

As a longtime fan of Lorde who has stanned for her every era and thinks Virgin is her second best album: yes. It has a lot of passages that are VERY specific and might throw you out, that's probably why my favorites is Current Affairs, it has a lot of personal details but they are more universal than giving someone everything since seventeen or some days being a woman and some days a man.

Didn't 'man of the year' go viral on tiktok? That shows people still find her relatable
