Whether you can personally relate to it is a different discussion tho. I can imagine many people (primarily women) relating to this album in various ways.

Yeah, I find Virgin extremely relatable in a way that is almost astonishing due to how stark and raw the storytelling is. Even the stuff that isn't specific I can find an emotional parallel for.

 

There's also an intelligence to her writing that is severely lacking in other mainstream music which is so refreshing.

also, on a serious note, there's no point in constantly taking shrooms/mdma other than frying your brain. with each smaller interval every trip become less profound and more ego trip brainrot.

I think the music itself is still relatable enough, if anything her new brand/persona/image is what's turning people off or isn't as relatable as the last time.

100%. i've noticed that she's started to be seen as a sily white woman on social media. with not a deep view on anything or anyone.

VERY different from how people saw her on her 2 first albums, solar power was the start.

Lorde is the type of girl that has heard shes special one too many times.

She's always been a bit pretentious, but it was a lot more charming when she wasn't rich.

Relatability is such a lazy marker to critique music. People live vastly different lives, what matters is if the music arrives at something truthful, something specific but with universal feeling. Lorde is a master communicator to me, she hones her words in a way that convinces me of what she's feeling and makes me feel along. For all the annoying Lana comparisons on this board lately, this is something they both have in common.

 

Relatability is exactly why Taylor's lyrics are still filled with teenage princess highschool girl archetypes. It prevents growth.

Why are people saying it's relatable because she talks about xyz topic? The topic being relatable is not important, it's how you talk about them. Personally even though the topic she talked about is relatable especially for women, the way she talked about them is too specific and too close to herself that I have a hard time connecting with it. Often times It doesn't feel like a song about me, it feels like a song about her and only her. Since I don't follow her personal life and her struggle, I can't relate to her experience.

A little bit on this album, but maybe it will sink in.

If you're an artist and making music that is "relatable," you're probably not much of an artist.
