What else could Janet do?

Featured Replies

She has recently had a viral song, she's touring, getting awards and performing at ceremonies, is in amazing shape again, looks gorgeous… it still doesn't seem to be enough for streaming platforms, her Spotify streams are just painful and so is the number of monthly listeners, what else could she do?

8.3 monthly listeners

no song over 200M streams (simply unacceptable for this glorious legend)

Janet counting her daily streams:

(This is a joke I have made)

You guys need to accept that some artists simply don't stand the test of time. Janet is unknown and releasing music will definitely not help with that.

Nah. I remember in the 2000s as a kid watching her MV with Michael and thinking Michael was just giving his unknown sister a small push. That was the last time I've heard of her. Sad.

That's the way love goes should be absolutely huge

Together again should be a certified classic

All for you should be the queen of her streams

My personal mega-favourite I get lonely should do at least what Drunk in love is doing

And of course her 80s classics should do so much better

It's me again, but just to draw a comparison

Monthly listeners on Spotify:

Janet 8.3M

J.Lo 31M

Britney 41.8M

I absolutely love all three don't get me wrong, bit the difference is shocking to me

And this is right after Janet's viral song, performance and award won

Try and release some music? Do some promo on radio and social? I don't know, she seems completely absent from culture even though her contributions are huge while someone like JLo who is vastly less important in the grand scheme of pop music stays booked and busy. I don't know, she seems so complacent about her own career. I know she's a private person and everything but this is ridiculous.

I think the new generation is just completely unaware of her music. I'm European and I was recently talking about old music with my parents and when I mentioned I like Janet they were like 'yes! Janet! Love Together Again' so she is definitely known among Gen X (trying to counter that stupid argument that Janet was never global that's made on here)

She has so many bops she should not have such horrible streaming numbers.

she needs a new professional team. Not people related to her or old friends. Social media is there for free they could get some hype going if they knew how to market her for those who don't know her. You see Mariah, Madonna, Celine their teams do a great job at promoting their legacies. Always doing something exciting for the fans. Even if they flop into oblivion they release dvds, albums, collabs with younger artists etc.

I feel like Janet gave up too soon. She's like 10 years younger than Madonna at that point Madonna had just wrapped up her successful MDNA tour.

maybe she feels happy with where her career is at but we all know she could be bigger if managed correctly by a competent team.

Connect with newer and younger generations. She, herself, has always understated her own music, accomplishments and legacy. Throughout her career, she's always been a humble spirit; I don't see that changing, especially at this point. She really doesn't have anything more to prove, as an artist or entertainer. Janet will always be relevant due to her contributions to music and pop culture.

I really don't feel as though she wants to be thrust back into the limelight, having to hold and garner attention and being the center of it. She's already been there for better and for worse. And she could say, better than anyone, how much of a double-edged sword that is. Whatever she does now, I feel, is just the added exclamation point on her already accomplished career—whether it be a performance here, an awards ceremony there, etc.

Jlo gets dragged on social media 24/7 yet she never stops. She's always booked and busy I just saw her at world pride and she was incredible.

Damn autocorrect

Create a fake beef with Madonna and both release their new music.

The gays get beneficial :ryan3:

it will be hard because she hasn't really been at the forefront of pop culture for a long time whereas (as has been mentioned) flops like jlo keep their names in people's minds – even those who are too young to have experienced them at their peak – through sheer incessant exposure. i was gonna suggest a netflix series but i see she already did one in 2022 for lifetime/a&e... maybe just hire a social media team and pump out archive content on tiktok, under the guise of being regular users, until things start to stick.

Rather transparent wouldn't you say! But I would die! My two absolute childhood faves!

Imagine Secret meets I get lonely

Or they better maximise their joint slay by collaborating a dance electronic pop song and ending young careers :-*

Janet is unknown

Omg, this is so wrong.

She doesn't have the visibility. Madonna's reign arguably ended after the S&S Tour but she stayed in the public eye even if the music wasn't succesful anymore. Janet vanished from the public eye for a good time after Discipline, it's very hard to build traction again if you don't have some sort of visibility/virality.

Her and her team don't really care, so why should the rest of us? At least she's still out there touring and getting some deserved legacy awards, so that's something.

She could have had some nice hits outside of the US after nipplegate, or even put her name out there more often post Unbreakable, but she's more focused on being a mom and that's her decision in the end.

I don't even think she ever cared that much over her legacy anyway, she just worked her ass off and that kept her in the spotlight for 20 years. Her Control to Damita Jo run will keep being appreciated by pop and r&b fans who enjoy great music

I'm sorry but look at this? It's perfect, timeless, sexy, streamable, repeat button worthy, godly, god!

She was never in the same level as Madonna, Mariah, or Whitney :sorry:

Also, the fact that she's an uneducated Trump supporter in 2025 is just sad. It makes her fading legacy feel deserved.

Like, am I supposed to feel sad that hardly anyone remembers the music of this out-of-touch auntie anymore? Nah.

These aggressively ignorant posts from the usual. Janet made music in the 80s and 90s that are classics and defined pop and R&B. She has a legacy. It's her fault for not being more present in people's minds but saying she didn't stand the "test of time" when she has 3 of the biggest selling albums of all time is ridiculous. Expected but ridiculous.

I think there will be renewed interest in Janet's music when the Michael Jackson biopic is released .

That is the perfect opportunity (timing-wise) for her to make a comeback

No shade but the likeliest path for Janet to regain relevance is through Michael (and I always prefer Janet to Michael btw)

Just spoke with my good sis Chattiah Gee Pee Teayah:

"

There's no credible evidence that Janet Jackson is a supporter of Donald Trump. What happened, however, is that in a September 2024 interview with The Guardian, she echoed a false claim—which had also been pushed by Trump—that Vice President Kamala Harris is "not Black" and asserted she heard Harris's father was white  . This sparked backlash and was widely called out as misinformation .

Janet's team later issued an apology—but it turned out to have been released without her authorization  . Her representatives clarified that the statement was not hers and that she had not explicitly endorsed or supported Trump himself.

In short:

  • She has not endorsed Trump or expressed support for his presidency.
  • She unintentionally repeated a conspiracy that aligned with narrative previously put forward by Trump.
  • ✔️ Her team has since walked back the unauthorized comments and apologized."

Streaming numbers aren't everything, but her catalog just doesn't have the visibility her peers have enjoyed since the streaming era began.
