Unknown? Oh come on ... I was a kid in early 00s and sure first knew of her as Michael's younger sister too. But All For You, Someone to call my lover & Together Again were played a lot on MTV Asia during that time. And the AFY cover (Janet in the white sheet) was very memorable, I saw that album in plenty of CD stores when I was a kid.

 

But maybe I'm from Asia, and MTV Asia still played Janet a lot in early 2000s I guess. Cause I remember watching MVs for "All Nite (Don't Stop)", "Just a Little Bit" and "Feedback" plenty of time on MTV Asia, all of which are post Nipple-gate. Janet herself performed "All Nite" during 2004 MTV Video Music Awards Japan too.

just for the 00s because it's when i can remember, but Call On Me was a hit here  and Feedback was popular on music channels as well

Idk whats going on with her career or what exactly was the breaking point. It definitely wasn't the Super Bowl incident.

 

The other day I watched one of her recent concerts on YouTube and was genuinely shocked. The budget was like $10. It was ridiculous. It seems like she doesn't care about her legacy at all.

It's probably because she was so under the radar for so many years. Even now she seems rather low-key visible to me tbh.

 

I agree, she has so many classics, that should be much bigger on streaming.

I think we need to let go of the idea that songs from literally 30 years ago should still be listened to by a predominantly under 22 year old streaming market. They don't get the sound, they don't want to hear it and when they do basically a handful of songs from that era really still get streamed and those are the gigantic hits (i wanna dance, Bohemian Rapsody, MJ songs etc) so her best bet is new music.

 

Janet needs to release new material so people her age have something new to listen to, if the new gen responds to it great but that is just no longer the goal and shouldn't be.

Whatever she wants to do, she owes no one anything after fifty-plus years in the business.

She could do many things, the question is what does SHE want to.

 

Janet's discography is amazing and timeless, she has a ton of classics and bops and her legacy remains forever on another league. She has achieved a LOT and way more than most artists in the world, so it's not like Janet has anything left to prove (at all). Her art will always be appreciated by many. 

 

She could perhaps release another album (didn't she tease that Black Diamond was still happening some time ago?) and use this viral moment of STCML. Maybe also tour overseas in some European and Asian countries again.

 

 

 

The only way to increase her streaming is if she and her team push/pay for more playlisting. This is obviously something she doesn't care to do or it would have been done years ago. She's content with touring and doing residencies and even that will decline as she gets into her 60's. I think she's completely fine with her time in the spotlight being over.

Get a better team 

Get more than 3 dancers 

 

 

like im sick of legacy being mishandled and her being treated like an after thought. She just doesn't care anymore and feels like she has nothing else to prove but GURL

Love her to pieces but I do echo that sentiments expressed here. When I look at Mariah and Madonna, they seem to be still hungry for success and relevancy. With Janet, I do not see the same drive anymore. Sure she goes on tour and works hard to perform night after night. But no new album for a decade and the mishandling of her catalog is so shocking for an artist of her caliber.

 

The current team behind her is like family and I get that she wants to surround herself with people she trusts but at the very least get a REAL professional manager to manage her career because Randy is NOT it!

I think like some of you mentioned here, she failed to connect with the recent gens. Her music stayed with Gen X and never transcend. Maybe because of the hiatus she took?

Oh she was very popular. MTV Asia and Channel V played her nonstop and devoted a full month on her when she released All For You. Her videos consistently topped their charts at that time. TVR era was just as big or even bigger thanks to Together Again

She needs another Rock Witchu Tour.
