Are they Marina's daughters?

Featured Replies

I keep seeing interviews of Addison saying she's inspired by britney, madonna, prince and all the legends.. but i think there's one name missing from these lists and it's Marina. It was already clear when she dropped aquamarine but i've seen a lot more people pointing it out in the tiktok comments when she dropped fame is a gun. Both sound like marina songs (acquamarine from the Froot era, fame is a gun from electra heart). And then we have chappel... i will say her other songs don't sound like marina, but those two hunny... she definitely stole her nachos. I'm not even a big Marina fan but i feel like her influence on today's pop music is not discussed enough.

i personally don't hear it, if you want to talk about Marina inspiring artists then Hemlocke Springs would've been a better pick

Chappel could be, and she's a fan. Addison I don't think so, she's a Charli offspring, all vibes, no substance.

Addison could be, and she's a fan, the other one no, she's a Brooke Candy offspring, all vibes, no substance.

Addison is a Madonna granddaughter. She's all style and all substance.

I definitely heard the Marina influence in "Good Luck, Babe" the very first time I heard it. Especially in the chorus.

Addison is a smart girl that knows how to play the marketing game, but she's not someone I'd ever take seriously as a genuine musician unlike Chappell and Marina. She's got some cute little bops tho.

Robyn gave birth to them all.

@godmess: Just for added context, I think that Robyn carved out a wide space in the pop music sphere now occupied by semi-mainstream, semi-indie girls, such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Marina, Charli XCX, and Chappell Roan.

Chappell's album screams early Marina/early Kesha, so yes.

I don't think Addison is though.

And Marina is Spice Girls' daughter who are Diana Ross' daughters

Totally agree, Marina's influence is quite underrated. You can definitely hear it in Chappell, especially in Good Luck Babe. The drama, the camp, the vocals are definitely giving TFJ Marina vibes.

Addison, on the other hand, doesn't really give Marina. Even though Aquamarine and Fame Is a Gun might kinda hint at Marina, it feels more like coincidence than influence. She's channeling early 2000s pop more than anything.

I can see it for both, but especially for Chappell! songs like Red Wine Supernova and Good Luck, Babe! are pure Marina, she dialed into the kind of pop perfection Marina almost always delivers there :giraffe: for Addison, it's more in the tumblrcore sort of aesthetic, but Addison's music is a bit more like Charli's circa True Romance was (watery and progressive, one-track minded lyricism, catchy and kinda vapid pop) so yeah she's more of Charli's daughter but still somewhat Marina-inspired

I think Addison is more of an amalgamation of different inspirations. A daughter to many, if you will.

I did get Electra Heart vibes from Fame is a Gun though.

yeah i get that.. also because chappel's voice and style of singing are more similar. With addison it's certain melodies that remind me of marina, for example the chorus of fame is a gun gives me bubblegum *****.. and in general i think it fits in the sonic landscape of electra heart. Aquamarine's chorus also sounds like something marina could sing to me. But i also hear a lot of other artists in addison's music (like madonna, britney and charli)

unlike marina they make decent music so no

marina's first three albums were good…

The only girls that have give me Marina daughters are Chappell and Olivia on some of her songs like "love is embarrasing" and "jealousy" The other ones are kind of influenced by a lot of artists.

I'd say I can hear a lot of Marina influences on minor indie acts that Spotify puts on their editorial playlists so I think you have a point.

Addison, no. Chappell, yes.

The biggest "Marina daughter" so far is definitely Hemlocke Springs. And to be fair Marina, and basically all of the girlies, are someone's daughter.

Hell Hot to Go gives me Marina's Hollywood vibes.
