But then again, this is ATRL and the artwork is not some cunty serve of a portrait, so I guess it tracks

According to ATRL best album artwork is pop girl's face in the middle and album title centered somewhere on top or down and that's it

Album cover art has to grab your attention and this one is already iconic and different to everything else as it should

ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

The way this is already album of the year with one song out and album cover of the millenium.

One of the themes of the album appears to be questioning sexual identity and gender norms, to question what it is to be masculine, what it is to be feminine and what this means with respect to body image.

Part of this can also be seen in the lyrics to the "girl so confusing remix"

Quote

'Cause for the last couple years
I've been at war in my body
I tried to starve myself thinner
And then I gained all the weight back

So we might expect to see a rejection of the conventional symbols of what it means to be feminine, alongside songs and images that express her femininity too.

The album cover and photoshoots supports this.

But ATRL wants an album cover and photoshoots with a conventionally attractive, pretty girl with make-up and expensive clothes looking "skinny" and "hot" although some of their faves only recently got skinny in the last couple of years.

The same goes for the people complaining about her vocals. They are simply used to hearing music charts full of heavy autotune and when their fave went on tour she probably used live autotune, or in one recent well known tour, more than half the songs were pre-recorded and she lip synced for most of the show.

Spoiler

the remaining tracks appear to have used live auto-tune.

I'm not saying Lorde won't use any vocal processing on Virgin, but maybe we should expect more RAW vocals with a minimum of processing.

I'm a radiologist so perfectly placed to answer this!

In diagrams the human body looks so tidy and aligned, but in reality every body is different! the uterus can lie in pretty much any position and angle in the pelvis, can be of different sizes, curvatures etc. The same kinda goes for any organ really.

Wow

Thank you for this informative answer! ❤️❤️

Can someone quote this in the future if she releases an alternate cover vinyl please. I just cannot own the current cover :sorry:

I collect vinyl's from most pop girls but usually collect covers that are pretty or what I believe I would want to display. I have nothing like this as a cover and it makes me feel uncomfortable (just radiology imagery in general). I forced myself to pre-order Addison's despite hating the cover but I just can't do it with this one, I would just end up selling it or throwing away the cover and keeping it in a clear vinyl plastic case.

I fear she's isolated many sales by having this cover

i wonder will the album have fully controversial hard lyrics or something omfg :jonny5:

I feel like this album will be het first in many things.

The artwork is so cool! I get it's not 'pretty', but it's such a good, unique album cover. Ugh, so happy to be so back in the Lorde world :jonny4:

Not me misinterpreting the album statement :skull: Either way, her saying the album expects a lot of listeners will mean something about the work is challenging. I still think it will have a similarly raw quality to FTBC.

The cover is not what I expected but it is pretty striking, and seems like the perfect summary for the themes of this album cycle. She really does consider every aspect of how to convey her message.
