Is comparison stealing your joy?

Featured Replies

"Comparison is the thief of joy" - Theodore Roosevelt

Do you agree with that? Is comparing yourself to others already making you miserable?

yes but what's the alternative , don't compare myself to others and become obese and haggard and unsuccessful ? will that bring me joy , theodore ?

I think excessive comparison can steal joy, but comparison in moderation is healthy and normal.

Humans' minds are naturally comparing each other, it's just there comes a point when you start to slowly destroy yourself when you compare a person's more elevated and sugarcoated image to your full self.

Yes. I deleted all my social media and social dating apps and feel genuinely great. I would think someone is putting antidepressants to my water if wasn't living by myself.

I think it did at some point but I reached a place in my life where I don't care about other people that much so I just do my thing and that's it.

Absolutely, I find myself to be the happiest when I'm not keeping up with people's social media

Yeah when i was younger i used to compare myself to others but then I realized that everyone is special and unique in their own way so i stopped

Also i'm happy with what i see in the mirror so there's that

it only steals your joy if you have any sort of competitive disadvantage

I compare myself all the time but for me is tricky cause i dont get jealous about the trips or the money, romance ot stuff like that cause i already lived that*have that.

i get jealous about all their crazyness sexstuff, drug use. street life rebelious **** some gays do.
Basically i have a dark side trying to come out and they trigger it.
I really need to stop lookin at social media and move away from that for my well being
I remember my life without social media in the 90s and early 2000s it was so pure lmfao aww

gotta have a healthy balance. you need just the right amount of comparison to light a fire under ur ass. but not too much that you discourage and stop urself from growing

Maybe a pigeon is slipping them in your drinks

life is not black and white.

that quote could be true to some and be false to others.

personally, i think it's mostly true cuz i sometimes compare myself to my friends and then feel depressed.

so i choose to be ignorant: i stopped using facebook many years ago so i don't know how their lives are and i have nobody to compare myself to, meaning i won't be depressed. :suburban:

I'm extremely successful so comparing myself to others doesn't steal any joy

:WAP:

Co-comparison is killing me slowly

I think, I think too much
'Bout kids who don't know me
I'm so sick of myself
I'd rather be, rather be
Anyone, anyone else
My jealousy, jealousy
Started following me (he-he-he, he-he)

I don't feel the need to compare myself to others, and I don't know why others would do that. I'm very happy with myself, and am very happy for others whenever I see them also being happy. If they are not doing well I wish them well and always root for them.

So, I don't see any scenario as to where does 'comparing' comes into place at all or the need of it.

I never feel the need to compare myself to others, I can only know my self to the fullest and it doesn't make sense to compare yourself to people without knowing what it's like to be in their shoes. It's just never been a thing to me but it must be tiring.

I only compare myself to me. me, myself and I.

there's no point to compare yourself to other people at all

It's impossible to not compare yourself to other people. It gives us information about what we want in life. It's fundamental and in our DNA
