Tems, Shenseea, Ayra Starr, Tyla, Tinashe, Kehlani were all right there for Nice And Sweet

 

She's been outspoken about wanting to work with Bad Bunny, JCole, Bruno Mars then make it happen sis !!!

 

Also she could easily be touring with people like Usher, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Tyga, Latto, Kehlani like come on girl

I'm with you topline, but you've inadvertently highlighted something: she doesn't have the pull to rope in most, if not all, of those names mentioned. Including the ones she's already collabed with.

 

And it's largely her fault. 

 

Had she kept up the sound and general quality of self-titled (flop or no flop), collabing with her NOW would be a more attractive concept to these artists you mention. Especially given that nostalgia is back in. 

 

But because her music is so patchy *and* doesn't move the needle commercially, it's just a chop all around. One minus is workable, two is not.

 

There is no feasible world where a current Ciara is scoring collabs with: Bad Bunny, Drake, Bruno, Cardi, Nicki etc.
 

Hell, even the top-tier Afrobeats acts it doesn't benefit. Like, in a world where Wizkid has a whole song, video, and Grammy with "Beyonce", Ciara wouldn't be of interest or advantage. 

 

(Sidebar: Love Missy, but that is not getting anyone a hit in 2025. As somewhat of an Afro music connoisseur, Diamond Platinumz is not a "random guy". He's actually very successful (especially in South Africa). Tekno was bigger around the time Freak Me came out and is actually perfect for the song. But CIARA flopped the rollout and didn't even do a video for what IMO was easily the best song on the album. 

 

Even when she does land decent sized collaborators, it's typically still so mid. She gets a peak Summer Walker and we get...Better Thangs lol. How We Roll is an outlier, but if we are keeping it a buck, like most R&B "hits" these days, it sounds like album filler from an album during the genre's 00s heyday.

 

Now, I will say, I do think that would be a better use of her money. 

 

If these artists won't play ball organically, she should throw the money she clearly has at scoring a few surefire hits with established streamers and let that organically generate the interest around working with her. If she looked at it as investing in herself qualitatively, it would absolutely bring about better producers, better music, and better collab opportunities...organically.

I literally love R&B and get down with a lot of new music nowadays. So really hate how my/our stance gets immediately roped into the "old heads" category. Because I'm very open.

 

But it's wild to me how nothingly so much of contemporary R&B now is. Lush production has been replaced by the sparsest beats (that all sound alike), vocals are purposefully not a thing anymore, and lyrics being decipherable is not a matter of concern (SZA, who I enjoy, being a repeat offender lol). Don't get me started on the absence of bridges.

 

Take Kehlani's Folded, for example. By no means a "bad" song, but it is the definition of unremarkable. It's not even a patch on her own best material, yet TikTok is behaving like it's the second coming lol. So bizarre to me. 

 

I would put it down to music going in cycles, but my issue is that we're so far removed from the core essence of what R&B is that I think it's a fundamental re-writing for the new era and it's scary. It's different if it felt like progressive experimentation, but these artists are putting out music that literally sound like demos.

A song without a bridge is not a song. That's a snippet. A TikTok sound.

So wilde. That's exactly the example I had in mind while I was writing. That song is missing a climax and some crazy ad-libs at the end. But I guess, it's a step in the right direction.

 

I think Muni Long's last album is the closest thing we've gotten to that R&B.

 

Coco Jones has the voice and the R&B attitude but the material is lacking. I think she can do great things in the future.

 

Givēon has a distinctive voice. His last album is not bad but, as you said, his best songs are 00's fillers.

You've been coming at her performing skills alot recently. I saw her live and she was fantastic. Remember she literally just had like for 4th or 5th then went right back into performing and still outperforms most of the girls. Show her a little grace. Everything else though drag her for it

Ciara is a top performer but she has not had a moment. She has no viral performances or recent viral choreo.

 

Everybody knows she's a great dancers but I don't feel like she's done a good job of showcasing it, especially not in recent years. Her last moment was level up maybe? And before that "Ride"?

I remember Theron said ppl told him not to work with Ciara and a lot of csquad took that as her being blackballed but I took it as most producers/writers don't feel like she's worth investing. Soo many times she has recorded great material that ends up scrapped off the album or never getting single treatment. Producers do not like that.

But damn did the features ruin every track they hopped on... Only good one is how I roll, even tho I dislike chris a lot he has a nice tone when he sings, I must admit. Latto was what it was but Tyga, Big Freedia, Lil Baby and Diamond Platnumz all sound horrible like wtf I can't take the tracks seriously when their part starts I'm just so pissed that all my "fave tracks" have features and they ruin the tracks for me so I end up skipping them most of the time tbh. dance with me, forever, winning, low and how I roll would be all amazing tracks if they were solo imo
