I can't tell you how much the release of Warrior affected a 15 year old Joe. without Warrior, I never would've discovered ATRL, and I never would've lurked for 7 years before becoming a member at the end of 2019. without Warrior, my sophomore year of high school would've sucked so much more. if you look on my instagram, the third slide of the post I made a few hours ago is a photo of me with my oldest friend (and her bf who we love is also in that photo). her name is Aja, and we grew up together in suburban Maryland. I'm 28 and she's gonna be 26 soon, but there's nary a time when we'll get into deep conversation—whether it be in person, over facetime, over text…—and Warrior won't come up. this is because Aja and I are both suckers for nostalgia and are both sappy motherf*ckers in general. so, as the story goes, we all remember the tunnel song in Perks of Being a Wallflower right? it was Heroes by Bowie. for us, well, we didn't have a tunnel song… but we DID have a running through the YMCA field in my parents' neighborhood in Silver Spring song, a similar exhilarating feeling imo. trust me, I've done the tunnel moments with the sunroof! running through that field, feeling so angsty while Love into the Light played on sh*tty phone speakers, trying to shake all that frustration off, just Aja and me being kids. so many fond memories. the beltway blaring behind the walls right past the Y field, the sun setting, being barefoot in that staining grass… just f*ck yeah. I made a comment on this video of Love into the Light:

I'm sure you'll be able to find it if you want to. that's mine and Aja's song. so is Kesha's unreleased song Lucky, which we sing together while she plays ukulele almost everytime we see each other in person. that photo on my insta is from when she visited me in May, our friendship will never end. she lives in New Mexico, I'm in Denver, but Maryland and that YMCA field and those Kesha songs have forever left their marks on us 

Agreed on nostalgia permanently boosting/warping my score of Warrior, it is just very much tied to a specific time of my life. I think that generally is true for how most people engage with music/rankings of artists they grew up with. Animal/Cannibal are tied to some of my first experiences developing my own interests/taste in music coming out of middle school, Warrior was tied to more coming of age type moments in high school and Rainbow is very tied to my first year living in Los Angeles after college.

 

I actually am consistently surprised at how beloved Gag Order is in the fanbase. I gained some more appreciation for it during its section on this tour, but I've really struggled to connect with it as a whole. I really do respect it as a body of work and for what it meant to her, but I find it to be a tough listen (I know that is partly intentional, but it does prevent me from seeking it out to listen to) and don't think most of the individual tracks have a lot of replay value. And it isn't necessarily that I only love her for the bops, I play Bastards and Spaceship on their own constantly, there is just something off about it for me. But also still happy for her that such a deeply personal and experimental album did find its home with a lot of her fans.

Its so dumb how she released a bonus track before the album came out. I guess she didn't even have to do a deluxe in the first place but still imagine the gag if we heard attention for the first time today.

Me coming in here to say I like Trashman, the remix of Boy Crazy, and of course Attention and I see all this high road hate on this page rn

i think warrior has higher highs than animal & cannibal. like last goodbye, love into the light, past lives, wonderland... i also feel like the messiness of warrior makes it work for me!

 

tbh, i could be biased because warrior has such a special place in my heart as i was anticipating its release for a while. i also overplayed warrior a lot during the wait from warrior to rainbow so i could be ranking it higher because of nostalgia. 

Warrior might not be the kind of record Kesha wanted to make, but it's still pretty good.

 

Even the more generic tracks have personality. All That Matters is the only one I don't care for, but even that song is perfectly ok.

I want Attention to be given the full single treatment with a music video and remixes!! 

I love how the intro of TRASHMAN. is giving David Newman film score. Very Heathers or Matilda! 

I was prepared to hate Trashman based on some of the comments in here, but I really like it!

We have gotten 10 new songs in less than a month (if you didn't listen to the leak) and she shows no signs of slowing down. I don't understand why people are complaining about this 'deluxe'. It was obvious that they wanted to merge the pre-album songs and this was a way to benefit her fans while also doing it. She is currently touring and the idea of releasing a full deluxe takes more effort and care than just throwing it into the wild. We just have to wait and see I guess.

After a few days of listening all the way through, I would place this somewhere in the middle within her discography. There are some standouts like Red Flag and I really like GLOW!
