Why couldn't Julia Michaels happen?

Featured Replies

Being such a strong songwriter, and now writing all of these hits for the new pop girls. Plus she had her breakthrough hit with Issues and also has really good live vocals.

If Taylor, Gracie, Lorde, Carly Rae, Billie, etc relied on their songwriting to get them established as popstars, why couldn't Julie as well? Was it maybe her conscious decision to want to be more hidden behind the sidelines?

she made a mistake by giving every good song to Selena Gomez and keeping the bottom of the barrel for herself….

She probably makes 10x more in songwriting royalties than her solo radio hits ever did, unfortunately she just wasn't interesting enough and came up at a time when the charts were more Hip-Hop/Rap lea

Her own songs lacked identity and kind of just faded in the sea of radio fodder.

she made a mistake by giving every good song to Selena Gomez and keeping the bottom of the barrel for herself….

Some people really are better as songwriters than as pop stars. Ultimately I don't think the songs she was making were interesting enough to attract a dedicated audience

IDK but after the crimes against music committed on the Wish soundtrack, we should be glad that she didn't.

she lacks star power, also her voice tone is not for everyone

as someone who used to love her a lot back in the Nervous System era, the answer is definitely the albums not matching the quality her singles and having a BUNCH of skips/fillers.

Her voice isn't very pleasant to listen to and her second single being Uh Huh killed her chances of having a proper career

Ugh what a legend :jonny5:

I don't think she needs to become a superstar though, I'm sure she's doing just fine as a songwriter

No shade but some people are just meant to be behind the scenes. See also: Bonnie McKee. It's a different skillset for being a writer to being a performer.

She kind of has made it no

even got 2 big hits out herself while writing hits for others  :michael:

Not everybody is meant to be a pop star, she's so good at writing for others but for some reason her solo material is lackluster for the most part.

Her voice is bad…

also she gave away her good songs to other artist

Some people are meant to be writers and not the face basically of the art they help create.

I don't follow her but she seems pretty successful? I hear her name all the time in music :michael:

But her sister Jaden is underrated tho and should have been a star as well :jonny2:

I used to follow her on youtube back in the day. Her vocals are so great and her original version of Give Your Heart A Break is perfect :jonny4:

And she's so pretty too!

Ntm because she kept Issues for herself. That so would've ate as a Selena droplet single:ghostface:

Yes, I said that :toofunny2:

She is very shy and doesn't want to be a star

This ^

Plus, I think she's perfectly content living off the royalties for all the major songs she's written. Sis has her bag secured (Justin, Selena, Sabrina) and probably doesn't care too much about being a star at this point.

I just listened to one of her songs and she just sounds like Gracie Abrams so clearly her voice isn't the issue
