Should Katy pull a Ariana/Justin?

Featured Replies

They both had albums then around 6ish months later from Sweetner to Thank You, Next and from Changes to Justice.

Should Katy drop an album this year and hopefully come back swinging?

That would require actually being able to swing which I don't think she has in her.

She's basically a legacy artist and is focussing on her internationally successful world tour (slightly less successful in the US but I'm sure her dates will sell out too). I think she's going to lean into her existing fandom that wants to see her sing her many hits for the next year. She can release another album when she feels like it, I don't think chasing a chart success album is her priority right now at all.

No but she should release a Greatest Hits album with a brand new Dr. Luke-free song just to clean the 143 mess before her tour

id be more up for a Best of instead of a Greatest Hits, cos then she can exclude ALL dr luke songs from it.

  • Waking Up in Vegas
  • Thinking of You
  • One of the Boys
  • Firework
  • Circle the Drain
  • Hummingbird Heartbeat
  • Dressin' Up
  • Walking on Air
  • By the Grace of God or Choose Your Battles

and really any fan fav tracks from Witness and Smile. i'd opt for

  • Power
  • Roulette
  • Tsunami
  • Cry About it Later
  • Harleys in Hawaii
  • Never Really Over

Wonder is the only 143 song that wikipedia doesnt list luke in its writing or prod credits

Sweetener was a massive hit though and so was Changes, especially compared to 143.

She should, but she hasn't made a good career decision since releasing NRO. This is the same woman who released HiH on a Wednesday :rip:

She would have done it in 2018 if she still had any genuine passion for music. She doesn't care anymore and just wants to make money from touring now because it's from touring that most of the artists fortune comes

No. She only released 143 because of touring (in her own words). I think she should step back from the industry a little bit and really reflect on this era. Cause if she doesn't learn from her mistakes she will never grow or evolve.

Actually, that would be an amazing move. She still has momentum off of the promo she did for 143 (and the viral ridicule for Woman's World) so people are paying some level of attention, which is not guaranteed at all for 2027. And if the album flops, she can call it a "project" or an "EP" or something and no one will drag her because they already did a few months ago anyway. She has nothing to lose.

But I don't think she has the material. If it took 2 years to put Smile together, she won't whip up anything decent in a couple months, in between tour rehearsals

I said it before and i'll say it again

Katy will never be successful in music again she's a legacy act

but those were successful albums. and she's about to be on tour until November.

this new excuse, c'mon now :rip:

Comparing Katy Perry's career trajectory with 143 to Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber is... something lol.

First of all, Sweetener and Changes were hit albums and had hit songs. Sweetener and Changes were #1 albums and both opened with 231k units. Sweetener has two songs with over a billion streams with God is a woman and NTLTC while the album has over 5 billion streams. Changes has Intentions which has over a billion streams and even the flop single Yummy is at 831M streams.

143 can't even come close to a fraction of the success of Sweetener and Changes. Despite both Ariana and Justin having bigger albums that followed, Sweetener and Changes weren't flop albums in the slightest. 143 is a big ass flop in every capacity, even for Katy's low standards. Katy is a legacy act, she is never going to have another hit album era again. She doesn't have the talent or the artistic vision. She might get another cute moderate hit with a collab or something but that's the best she can hope for.
