When it comes to the modern job market, it seems as though certain companies have a preference for hiring minorities for various positions, in order to seem like they are hip and cool and kawaii.   With that said, have you ever been (or are you currently) a DEI hire? Do you think your boss only hired you because you're a homosexual? Discuss.

 

 

DEI hires are not a real thing. Maybe it was at some point but inclusive hiring is about challenging your internal biases and trying to view everyone on a level playing field rather than just hiring people who look like you and your friends/colleagues/family.

no, i work in civil service and in my line work you are assessed at multiple stages after being interviewed and hired so if you don't have what it takes you simply won't be allowed to do the work

Back on topic, I've never encountered a coworker with whom I can objectively say they were hired because they were in the minority. There are plenty of reasons why I question their hiring, but certainly, their ethnicity, sexuality, or religious choices are not one of them.

We all know women and minorities tend to have to work at least twice as hard in the same positions to get hired/get recognition so the whole DEI thing is complete BS.

Same. On a state and local level as a dual employee.

considering my current direct boss is a stressed out engineering major twink who's two years younger than me and my old direct boss was a 36 year old extremely stylish (i'm talkin sweater vests but in a he pulled them off sort of way) Black twunk who was very sexy and cool and just about all the other concierges in my building are also queer and in their 20s… I don't know honey. the boss's old boss was a 23 year old tall twink and now the new boss man is some straight middle aged fat italian american guy from Arizona (who shares my first name  which is annoying) who i've never met but who is procrastinating giving me a raise… man I don't know. it's hard to tell, my industry is really all about having a nice smile, a charismatic demeanor, being cute in general, and being friendly in general. thus, queer people and PoC THRIVE in it, cause I mean just look at how those of us who work here ARE! we're hotties! and we're funny and smart too so… I think I was more a good intuition sort of hire lol
